Canesisters 2023 journal - turning my Disasters into Delights

Yep!! So when I re-do the paddock in field fence, I can put a line of hot wire around the top (for miss leapy-britches' entertainment) & have that small-ish, secure, calf friendly, silly in-heat cow containment area that I always reccomend folks just starting out have. 👍🏻😁

.75 joule & 5000 MAX volts (according to their website) 😩 According to some articles I read today: 5000v minimum reccomended for cattle. Especially naughty ones who have discovered yummy flower bed salads. And with my worn out polyjunk & occasional weeds/briars/vines sucking down all the...

2 Wires in some places, 3 in others Thanks, I couldn't decide which to work on first. I have seen Blossom reach out & almost touch the top wire (checking it?). But I also thought that if they are reaching under to get that "greener grass" the bottom would be best. I'll focus on the top first...

I'm putting together 'The Plan' for fence work this Sat. It helps my anxiety to make detailed, step by step lists ... even though the actual work almost NEVER follows my plan  Google my current charger to see if it SHOULD be doing the job (there isn't any joules or miles covered info...

    Coffee anyone ?

.. how would a roaring woman working alone pull that woven wire fence tight if this particular woman didn't happen to have a tractor???? Asking for a friend.... which is me... 🤠 Nevermind.. I found a really good video that even showed how to make a stretcher out of a couple of 2x4s :thumbsup

    Farmerjan's journal - Weather

It was THICK fog here until about 9AM, I wonder how much of that was effected by the smoke/particles in the air?

Thank you @farmerjan , I will definitely look up those videos. The ground near the barn stays slightly damp... never had ANY trouble growing grass/weeds there. Actually, much of the property has little springs & spots that stay a little damp even in the driest months. A couple of years ago -...

I still have to google the charger I have on the wall to do some research on it's specs - but I'm seriously considering switching it out for this one. At the moment, I have NO IDEA about the joules output, or even the max miles of fence charged that my current charger is meant to do. I KNOW...

That had never crossed my mind... I am DEFINATELY going to look into that. Wouldn't that give Dad something to wonder about... If I called HIM one morning from work and said - Hey Dad, Eva is heading down the driveway towards your place. Can you go out and yell at her to go home please? 🤣

I set up several home made cutoff switchs a couple of years ago by putting gate handles where the pastures meet the paddock & where I divide up the south pasture - so that I could only charge where they are (supposed to be).

I'm honestly not sure how to tell if the charger is enough. That's been a concern... is it not zapping because I've just got too much wire? some places have 2 lines, some 3. I DO have the ability to add a 2nd charger in the other side of the barn that could charge JUST the north pasture.....

That's pretty much my plan at this point. I've cried enough! Time for action. Starting at the charger & working my way around the fence lines. Replacing insulators & polybraid as I go. I'm sure that I'm going to have a BUNCH of questions as I go... ALL of my fence is electric wire. The...

I still can't see how I might be able to field fence the pastures.. it just really feels like it's out of my reach financially - and physically. It would certainly not be that pretty, tight, straight line of fence..... But getting all the ancient & frayed poly-braid stuff gone might be able...

Both girls where they should be when I got home. Contacted my hay guy - he said he was bailing orchard grass right now & could bring me two 4x4 bales Wed or Thurs PM. At the very least.... if I have to lock them up, I'll have hay to feed them. Oh, found the collar laying next to a tree in one...

I would LOVE help with the fences. Unfortunately, pretty much all we'd be able to accomplish is planning.. and maybe 1 small purchase/repair - and that would be a long drive for such small results. I've actually considered borrowing from my retirement account to completely re-do the whole...

That's what I was wondering... I wish I had enough game cameras to put the whole place under surveillance. Shoot... I WISH I could put up a secure perimeter fence around the whole property & just turn them loose.

That's what I keep thinking! I just can't imagine anyone describing her as a brown cow. And unless there was a MUCH longer time lapse than I was led to believe, she had to have hustled to get from his yard back in the pasture and so far from the fence break before Dad got up there...
