    Calf that refuses to suck/nurse

We have an angus calf that was born 4 days ago now... She was born around 1pm on Saturday March 12. By 8pm she was in the house for a warm-up and bottle of colostrx. Sunday she was back in for a shot of Vetramycin and another dose of colostrx. She WONT suckle! We can put our finger in her...

    Milking angus....

Is there a difference in the milk of an Angus? DH wont have dairy cows, and we sold off several calves on Saturday, so yesterday I brought the nice cow into the barn, talked nice to her, washed her udder up, and milked about 1/2 out of her. Amounted to 3pt. She decided she was done after...

    Butter

Is it true that to make butter from goats' milk one has to have an actual butter churn instead of just using a mixer?

    Blood in milk

Um, what does it mean when there is blood on the bottom of the jar after a couple of days in the fridge? Like, the whole bottom of the jar has a thin layer.... not drinkable, correct?

    Picketing goats

So, we have our 2 pygmy ladies. They have been pestering momma duck who is trying to get thru the last few days of incubation, so we decided to remove the goats from "goat jail" (they were in lockdown for "trimming" my garden) and have staked them out under some box elders and cottonwoods that...

    Conjugal Visits

We have the neighbors' beautiful 6 mo old pygmy buck over for some "socializing". I planned to bring him over BETWEEN cycles so the girls would get used to him before he tried to pollintae them, but apparently Daisy is in heat because he's been making lovesick sounds, chasing her round and...

    Overdue?

We have an older cow, well ok we have SEVERAL older ladies lol. Anyways, her half sister was about 13 last year and delivered a stillborn, deformed calf. WE assumed it was due to her age and sold her. Now "Calfy" is, by our limited calculations (DH is a lifelong cattle farmer who knows his...

We gave him a shot to kill respiratory illness and a shot to kill any infection 2 days ago, and hes just getting worse. Nose isnt dry, but hes been panting and lungs sound a little fluidy, and if we stand him up to nurse, he wants to nurse, but he is so weak and lethargic about it... WHAT IS...

    Super Funny!!

1stgrade school teacher had twenty-six students in her class. She presented each child in her classroom the 1st half of a well-known proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb. It's hard to believe these were actually done by first graders. Their insight may...

    Duck stopped laying???

My lil girl is almost a year old, just started laying eggs end of Jan, beginning of Feb and layed 4 eggs, each 2 days apart then stopped. I assumed it was due to the -40 degree temps and that she would start when the days got longer and warmer, but she still hasnt laid any more! Is she broken!?

    Miniature Dairy Cows???

Have any of you seen those tiny mini holsteins that are getting so popular? I cant remember the website, but they were showing cows that supposedly only get 3 ft tall but look like the full size thing and milk enough for a large family... kind of suspicious in a "too-good-to-be-true" kind of...

    New here...

Hi! We live in Northern MN and have Angus (I am working on something more fun like British Whites, or Normande, but my DH is set in his ways) and I have a few goats, ducks, and am working on a big chicken project. The girls are calving, a few a day, and I wanted to share some pics since I am...
