The buck is the only one that does this...he gets his head stuck in the feeder and we have to pry it with a 2x4 and then when we push his head to go through the widened opening, he pushes back on us. We did finally get him out but what should I do to stop this from happening. I don't like to...
I'm breeding for the first time...I thought my girls were in heat, so I tried it. First girl I put in, ran away - especially with all the noise and snorting and tongue wagging...I think he scared the tar outta her. He started calming down where she let him sniff her but that is it. She did...
I've been trying to break my goats from being spoiled with pure alfalfa. Now I'm giving them grass/alfalfa hay. They normally don't like it so the buck yells (BAAAAs really loud) because he wants pure alfalfa. Well, today I decided I was going to win. Well, at one time today, I hear him...
Today for the first time since they've been penned up together for 5 months, the wether was BAAAAing really loud and running away from the buck. Well, I can understand why (because of rut) but I tried to have the buck leave him alone. Is that a good idea? What is the best way to handle this...
What do you all do with all the wasted hay that the goats leave behind? I tend to have alot because the last batch of hay was really stemmy and they don't like it. Hopefully my next one won't have too much stems.
It was very interesting...when I walked the girls, they were a little nuts...then the buck and wether... they were awesome. Although I could've done without the buck peeing on himself several times plus going nuts around the girls. One thing that was absolutely adorable was when the girls...
We need to build a shed for the goats for the winter and I was wondering if anyone else has put linoleum on the floor of the shed. We have to have a floor because we have water that flows and gets the ground all wet from the snow. I have linoleum in the chicken coop and it's sooo easy to...
I found out that the mineral I give to my goats is sheep mineral and it only has 100 ppm of copper. What can I do to add more copper to their diet? I prefer to stay away from copper bolus. I would like to add to their mineral.
Any ideas?
Thank you!!
I get loose mineral from the vet and was wondering if I still have to get them a salt block? It's starting to get hot and they are starting to breathe heavy. If I do have to give them a salt block, what kind? I saw at the farm supply, many different kinds.
The hay bales are dry but when I put them in the feeder, even if I have something over the top, it gets moist. Is that bad? Can that cause bloat? I've been trying to put it underneath their shelter but it's on the floor and they make a mess. At times they do go to the feeder and get hay...
Now that I'm feeding free choice hay, my boys are leaving the very hard stem behind in the feeder and they look like they are starving. They are even browsing. That's all good but they are young right now and they need their nutrition. They were calling for me most of the day, which is...
I got my wether banded a week prior before I got him. He didn't drop until later and that is why she banded him later than usual. One question is how long does it take for the sac to drop? It's very hard but it hasn't fallen off. I've had him 2 weeks so far. What if it didn't work? What do...
Some do, some don't...I tried to do free choice and my 3 1/2 month old boys ate it all up. I saw them most of the time by the feeder, until the next feeding time. Is this normal? Should I ration it? Help.
