Do ewe lambs mount others like cows do?

Specifically, my 5 month old ewe lamb appears to be mounting my mini pig. It could be play but does look more like mounting. She has an older sheep as companion but never does it to her. Whatever, Piggy does NOT enjoy it! Just curious.

A single cow with friend that's going to freezer?

I have a pet midsize mini Aberdeen Angus heifer that I got as a yearling and is now 18 months. (don't shoot me, I know they are herd animals but as a pet, she will also live a LOT longer than your average cow, so, trade off) Very friendly and seems quite content. Up until now I have been able...

    Rabbits with other species?

I have a mini-farm, and was thinking of adding a couple of rescue rabbits to my goat and pig area. The Humane Society wouldn't adopt to me because they said that rabbits get Giardia from mingling with other species? Is this really a problem? I do have another pen I could put them in if need...

Acepromazine for Potbelly pig hoof trim?

In the past I have trimmed my pigs hooves, using the "pig anesthetizing" technique I found on Youtube (belly rubs and gentle foot handling, worked great!) but he's gotten crankier lately, maybe because last time I did have my blacksmith do it. That was pretty traumatic for him, as he had to be...

Are mini donkeys in danger of coyotes?

I am NOT talking about using minis as livestock guardians, just want to make that clear right off the bat. My minis have lived outside amongst coyotes for years, and I never have worried about it but am hearing that lots of people wouldn't dream of leaving theirs unprotected at night. Does...

Stupid question? Can calves be contained in pipe corrals?

Feel a little silly asking, but it just occured to me to make sure my pipe corrals would contain calves. I plan to let them out in larger fenced area but basically to keep them up at night in my pipe corrals. I've had full grown sheep squeeze their way out of the corrals, but I think calves...

    DIY donkey hoof trimming?

I don't currently have a horse on the property and suspect my blacksmith will charge more to come just for a donkey trim. My donks both stand very nice for trimming and I'm a pretty good hand around horses etc, and trim my own pig and goats feet, so am thinking about buying a pair of clippers...

First time bottle calf raiser, 1 or 2 and cost estimates?

Have raised lambs but am being given my choice of 1 or 2 jersey calves to raise for someone else. They will be about 2 weeks old when I get them. Can anyone give me a "rough" estimate of costs to raise 1 for 3 months or so, and would you suggest getting 2? I have been around single bottle lambs...

    Single pet sheep?

This is a followup to my other post about raising a bottle baby. I have a mini farm/petting zoo and I just want one sheep. I know they are herd animals but I have seen single sheep in a similar situation that seemed just fine. I have a goat, donkeys and horses, etc. and I think a bottle baby...

want to raise a bottle baby...

I'd like to raise a bottle baby or two (raised 8 bummer lambs some time ago) but all I am finding are 2 week old lambs that are still with their mothers. The person is more than willing to sell them now but I don't know about taking them off of their mothers...? I just want them for pets, so...

    Is my mini donkey preggers?

I was given this 10 year old mini. She had been in with a mini horse stallion for some time. I've read the conception rate is very low for horse over donkey but she's pretty thin to be so fat...what do you all think? Any other tips as to how to know aside from the obvious, ultrasound or bagging...

Baby goats and geese and pig

I'm getting a couple of nigis as soon as they are weaned. They will have their own separate area but I like to let all of my animals free range together during the day. Like any family, there are squabbles but they basically all get along. My PB pig is pretty benign and I have never seen him...

Must belong to NDGA to register babies from registered parents?

I'm told that I must belong to the NDGA to register any babies that I may have from registered parents, is that correct? It certainly doesn't apply to horses; you pay the fees to register but you don't have to belong to the Jockey Club or AQHA...? Maybe I misunderstood?

Pets: Whether to get 2 wethers or wether and doeling?

Getting 2 8 week old Nigis in a couple of weeks. Originally I thought I would get 2 wethers but I like 1 of the doelings, probably wouldn't breed but suppose it might be nice to have the option, just in case. Is it a big hassle to feed a pregnant doe separately, or for that matter, doe and kids...
