    Doing Fecal Testing at Home

Thanks! Yeah, I'm wanting to learn how to do this right, but definitely benefits from making sure I have someone to tell me the right answers so I can check my work LOL. My vet called back and told me that those are "stomach worms" "the kind that attach to the lining and suck blood". He said...

Correct. I hate that pointer thing :/ Here is maybe a better, closer picture. I swear I could even see movement inside this one. And I found coccidia! It is much smaller and was hard to get a pic of. I'm still getting the hang of trying to get these photos.

Should I turn up the backlight? Thanks! More info is always welcome! I did email this to a vet to get his opinion too.

    Doing Fecal Testing at Home

Okay I have a McMaster slide (yay!) and went ahead and gave it a try. Thank you for your advice, I tried that and do think I got it a lot cleaner. These images are 100x I'm still having trouble with the ID. Anyone want to take a guess as to what these are? I do not think they look like...

First kids born, but no milk from mom?

Emasculators don't involve cutting. At least according to Fiasco Farms info. People have directed me to their site for good care info a lot, so I thought I'd see what they do. i'd love to read more info if you guys have recommendations...

First kids born, but no milk from mom?

Here's an update. Thank you all so much for the advice. I do have another question again. The kids are doing great. Eating well, and nibbling on hay. Mom goat is eating better and giving us about 2 and 1/2 cups of milk for them a day. I have started adding a handful of calf manna to her...

First kids born, but no milk from mom?

Really? :) *insert my sigh of relief here* I worry I'm not doing the right things since this is all new to me. I really appreciate the advice and feedback. Thank you! Now that the boy is going no problem, I haven't been cleaning him as much. The doeling's eyes get crusty a little. I think it...

    Am I doing this right?!

Hey Megan! I'm so excited for you! Also I know how you feel. I just had my first delivery recently, and I was constantly feeling for ligaments and second guessing. I found some videos on youtube that helped. Seeing someone demonstrate conveys more than reading sometimes. Maybe go on youtube and...

First kids born, but no milk from mom?

Kid and Mom UPDATE: Wow a lot has happened since my last post! First off, the kids are doing great :) Also worthy of note, we built our own milking pump for mom. Remembering my experience as a provider for a newborn, I used a pump and it helped a lot. Anyway, it was slow going at first. We were...

First kids born, but no milk from mom?

Hi guys! Wow it's been busy here's an update. Her udder is not tight. It hasn't filled with much. I do know how to milk, and did manage to express some by hand. It came out very easily, but there's hardly any. I gave a very small amount of that colostrum supplement to the small boy kid. He was...

First kids born, but no milk from mom?

First off, THANK YOU guys so much! I am brand new to all of this, and your input is so valuable! I did give them a nice squeeze and saw milk come out easily after the babies were dried off yesterday. So there should be no clogs. I also tried to express milk since then, and only got some going...

First kids born, but no milk from mom?

My one year old doe gave birth to twins yesterday. My first time and hers! Nigerian Dwarfs One baby boy at 2.95 lbs One doeling at 3.55 lbs But mom's udder never did get full and tight. She had some development, but not much more than a handful. There is hardly any milk in there it seems. The...

    very anemic goat.

Thanks! I got Selma to eat her Copasure pill inside some marshmallow. She was easy. My other two... not so much. Guess I'm going to have to pill them :( I'm mixing the sweet feed with the regular pellets, and having read your experience, I think I may get another bag of regular pellets to...

    Doing Fecal Testing at Home

100X magnification there (((edit I think I may have been mistaken and this one may not be that setting))) I see charts online reference the size of eggs- how does one measure that under the scope? Is that another thing the lines help with on the Mcmaster slides? Now that I've messed around with...

    Doing Fecal Testing at Home

I'm just getting into this. Looked at my first try with floats and slides today. Found this helpful too. http://www.uaex.edu/publications/PDF/FSA-9608.pdf Anyone have a good resource for identifying eggs? Like how to tell is this a barber pole worm egg, or maybe a brown stomach worm egg...

    very anemic goat.

I read Copasure has really positive reviews. I found a goat size on Jeffers. I have also read conflicting info on how to administer them. How do you give yours?

    very anemic goat.

I am going to learn to do my own here. My microscope came today! So I am getting ready to give it my first try. However I think that while I learn, it's good to send sample to some pros. I have heard of CAE, but no one has any swollen or stiff joints. I can get the test done anyway for peace...
