As an emergency vet tech for domestic animals, I will readily admit, pigs are not my forte. However, the shaking described could possibly be a seizure induced by head trauma or electrocution. I have seen it happen with puppies who were shaken or chewed on electrical wires.
Today is the day they are all being processed. The only one I am hesiating on is the herd buck. He is z ood guy and always did as asked of him but I can't justify keeping him as a pet for a year and it doesn't help the situation of not having time for them.
Thank you all for your kind words and...
I am getting out of raising meat rabbits after a semi-disastrous attempt. I have successfully raised 3 rabbits out of three attempted litters. I also just gave birth to a new baby and have a 2 year old and the time factor has been very difficult. I want to be able to enjoy the care of them which...
My three week old litter as of today is down to just the one baby who has been doing great up until this morning. Yesterday was one of the hottest days on record in our area and I found him this morning minimaly responsive and pretty much flat out. I brought him inside and have been dribbling...
Well, I am down to one kit left but he (or she, haven't checked that yet) is thriving! It is the biggest baby I have ever seen. It was easily double any of it's littermate and feels bigger than I remember any of the last litter being.
On another note, I went to check on everything yesterday...
My silver fox doe had her second litter last Thursday, 33 days after she was bred I had almost given up. She had seven, six right away and the seventh later in the day. The seventh was out in her run area and not in the nest box and was dead with some limbs missing (as in she ate them) then over...
Two week update! I lost one at two days old but the other five are doing fabulously. From what I can see on from the post about sexing rabbits, I have two bucks and three does. I am concerned that it seemed so easy to tell that I must be doing it wrong :)
Any thoughts on rodent control with open bottome cages? We have lots of mice runing through our yard to get the food that falls through the wire. They don't go into the cages and bother the rabbits but I would rather not have them around and we live in a suburb so outdoor cats are frowned upon...
And one of my doe and buck. The buck is not very good confimation and has a droopy ear but he is from a line of good meat producers and is very sweet and easy to handle. Not a fan of posing for pictures though.
Do you feed your does any different food while they are nursing? Mine has free choice pellets, access to hay at all times and fresh veggies every morning. Not sure if I should switch to a baby bunny pellet or something like that.
First time rabbit breeder and my first time doe had six babies overnight last night! I was worried because it was day 30 and she had not done anything and then must have built her nest overnight. Both parents are black traditional Silver Fox Rabbits and it looks like there may be two or so blue...
