I've got a 6m old Angus heifer, bottle calf weaned at 4m who from day one would NOT eat.
I've tried everything available here.
Yes, everything.
This is what I've gotten her to eat, finally, and am also giving the bull 1 1/2yr, underweight, and my 6m brangus heifer. The scoop I use holds about...
I'm not a fan of deer, but we were gifted two awhile back, which we had to process ourselves...
It took SO long... I was crying by the end of it!
Anyway... Need to use it up ago I pulled out a roast, thawed it, put a few cups of water in the roaster, drenched it in balsamic vinaigrette, soy...
A long while, geesh. My profile pic is Tootsie, I sold her.. Years ago
Well then, I guess an update is in order.
First, dh lost his job, I sold everything, tractor, trailer, truck, all but one cow, my Dexter, Maggie. (13 altogether)
I got a better trailer, and truck, and have 4 head now.
I lost...
Last time I posted, my introduction I guess, I had dairy cows, dh was out of work, rabbit breed issues, sickly chickens, no garden, etc etc. ...
Since then, I've had a total of 9 head of cattle, I've had to sell most of them. I have dude, a dairy Angus steer, who's now almost 8 months...
I finally brought home 2 little gilts, 8 weeks old, granddaughters of American badboy, not that I'm familiar, but sounds impressive. ..
They're doing well, so far (3 days) I was told the bigger girl was better quality and should be the one I keep, but she's a little aggressive, very very...
Wasn't sure where to post this, and I'm sorry I didn't get a pic. ....
I've seen buck rabbits as they age, their testicles hang a bit looser....
But. ...in routine nail clipping today, my daughter freaked out over my primary buck, jack.....seriously awkward. ...
When flipped over on his back...
So, we set out to buy one cow a year. I wanted dexters, and I have 2, a cow and bull. But I have had to buy unwanted cheap cattle, I bought a jersey with a bum leg and a holstein that was starved last year, wanted to keep the jersey, but had to sell them both to pay for our 3 cars that all...
My boys, enjoying the sunshine,
This was Yubie when we brought her home, sickly, skin and bones, potbellied and stunted, I'm so pleased with how she's turning out so far, and she hasn't coughed in over a month!
And Yubie, looking much better! That's Maggie behind her, you can see we haven't...
Maggie was coming in on Monday, Harley jumped the fence and I'm pretty sure I caught it just as it happened. She didn't stand, but I waited anxiously for some sign that she didn't get bred. Too early. [br]Yesterday she had bloody show, not a lot though. ..[br]My vet thought last month's...
Maggie had her boostervaccines 2 days ago, dude was dehorned, castrated (cut, not banded) and vaccinated the same day. I expected them to feel a but dumpy, and they have, better today though.
Yesterday I had to encourage Maggie to eat, but she did, dude also, same this morning, and...
If you've followed my other posts, you know that I've got 5 head in varying stages of growth, age, and productivity.
Maggie 3 yr old dexter nursing dairy Angus calf, getting 2 lb 20%cubes tad
Dude,3 month old maggies foster, nursing and given 2 lb 12%creep tad,but isn't eating much of it and...
So, we had a rough week, we lost Val, after a year of near zero production, 1 litter on the wire, 2 more than a week late, one birth producing only 2 kits, and one litter with only 1 kit (how the heck? !) then nothing nothing nothing and only 5 surviving total the whole year. We have no...
All 5 cows and calves averting a little off, so I called the vet.
Maggie, just coming off heat from last 2 days, had a little bloody show this morning, but this afternoon, was excessive. Not an emergency, but vet insists having her checked out before breeding in July, and possibly skipping...
I've got a dexter cow raising a jersey Angus foster. He's 9 weeks old and doing fine. But while she cleans him, plays with him, and cuddles him, she only allows him to nurse when she's at the feed bucket 2x/day.
Also have a week old bottle calf (jerseydexter)who has already figured out their...
I've got an update on Maggie and dude. Maggie is a dexter, dude is jersey Angus cross, he's now 5 weeks old, still lively and looks good, however, she never did fully accept him. She licks and cares for him, unless he wants to nurse. So we're still going out and tying her ( with feed, 20%) and...
Okay, my second cow is being ready to have her first calf. ... she isn't supposed to be sure until mid February, but I noticed she's s little springy the other day, the bull thought she was coming in, and today her bag is fuller and she's got slimy discharge. ...
She's not completely full...
I've never had pigs. .. that said, I know that all the research and advice in the world doesn't compare to actually having experience with any particular animal, but. .. I want pigs. .. and they'll be pastured spring to fall and penned in the garden over winter, I only intend to have 2 sows...
Hi, I've only just joined, and this is both a query and a mild vent post. We're in north east oklahoma, we've got 5 horses (2 are boarded, not ours) 2 labs, 3 cats, rabbits, chickens, ducks, and cattle. This year, both of my best breeding new Zealand does have eaten 3 litters, both were due...
