Nigerian Breeding Advice - Who do I keep?

I got my first goats 2 years ago and started out with a couple of cute little Nigerians. I got so lucky with those first two a little buckling and a little doeling that were from different farms. They were both purebred but neither had papers. At the time I didn't care because I envisioned...

    Disbudding

I just did all three of my new born Nigerian Dwarf bucklings this morning. They are 5 days old, 3 days old, and 2 days old. Last season we waited over a week and that was too long and we had very minor scurs on one. This morning, I checked and all 3 had their nubs sticking up so I decided to...

Feeding a New Mom of Triplets

My Nigi just had triplets on Friday. She had a big girl and then a little girl and a little boy. The big girl has been monopolizing the teats, so I started doing a few tiny bottles each for the little guys and always holding the big gal while the runts nursed. After 3 days, the little ones have...

    Baby Goat Palooza..

We have no interest in showing her but we do plan on breeding her if it isn't a big issue. I love her coloring and she is super sweet. Here mom is a great mother and produces lots of milk. Her twin brother has no issues so I am thinking it probably was a development issue in the womb as opposed...

    Baby Goat Palooza..

So Lilly has turned out front knees (or elbows) and walks a bit gingerly but is able to bounce around and seems fine. Should I be at all concerned or just wait until she gets a little bigger. She's the one with the white face, you can see it in the picture with the triplets.

    Baby Goat Palooza..

We went on vacation last week to get ready for birthing season which was supposed to start on Monday. Well the girls just refused to wait. Last Wednesday Frodo (yes my boys got to name her) had twins a little girl and a big boy. We let our pet sitter name the girl Lilly. The little boy we named...

    Disbudding baby goat

I got one of mine done yesterday. It was an hour and a half drive each way so I took the mom with me and put them together in a large dog carrier with hay in it and gave the little one some Fiasco Farms' Ow-Eze to help with the pain. They did great, once I covered the crate so they couldn't see...

Finally!!!! We have Merry's little buckling!

Thanks for all the support from everyone. I made it through the first kidding season for me and my little does. Everybody came out healthy and now we have a larger but very happy herd. Merry and Frodo have had it out now after many small battles and the herd queen is..... I have no idea...

    Soft stools after kidding

The grain is probably what is doing it. She looked so thin after kidding (it may have been birthing that huge boy), that I have been giving her way more grain, probably a cup and a half twice a day.

    Soft stools after kidding

My little FF ND doe has had soft stools since she kidded 3 days ago. She had a rough delivery as the big buckling got stuck and had to be pulled. She is eating fine and is being a great mother, but I am wondering if this soft stool thing is a result of giving birth, or the Ivermectin plus I...

Finally!!!! We have Merry's little buckling!

With those longs legs and his mom's good looks, our new Buckling, Bochy, will be the future sire of the herd for at least a generation or two. I think he will throw some beautiful kids.

Finally!!!! We have Merry's little buckling!

Its still early and he might lighten up a bit, but I am thinking he might be more of a dark chocolate color compared to Merry's milk chocolate coloring

Finally!!!! We have Merry's little buckling!

Finally, Merry had her buckling. He is absolutely enormous! He has to almost kneel down to nurse. He is almost as big as Bunny who was born 2 weeks ago! Needless to say, for a first freshener it was a tough delivery. After 20 minutes with a hoof hanging out and no progress, I called the vet...

Finally!!!! We have Merry's little buckling!

Sam didn't settle, but that was okay seeing how she is very very small even for a Nigerian Dwarf. Merry is playing by the Doe Code and is holding the kids hostage until I give her unlimited access to the garbage can where the grain is kept. I keep telling her that she is only going to be...

How do YOU neuter your boys?

I used a Burdizzo on my 1 year old buck after he had done his duty with the ladies, and gave up after 3 failures and had him cut at the vet. I definitely will not ever try the burdizzo on a grown goat again, but I will use it on any bucklings we decide not to breed.

Youtube of Bunny our baby ND 3 days old exploring

Here is a youtube video of our our Easter baby ND who we named Bunny because she hops and came Eater weekend. I can't believe how crazy and silly she is. I have been giving her and Frodo (her mama) supervised herd time every 1-2 hours for 10-15 minutes. Pippin, her dad, now a wether, gives...

Finally!!!! We have Merry's little buckling!

Mama and baby are doing great. They were doing the stealth feeding thing, waiting until I was out of sight, just to try and get a little more worry out of me. Dang Doe Code seems to persist even after they give birth.
