I have a 18 day old Nigerian Dwarf buckling that only has 1 testicle descended. If I understand correctly, they should both be there at birth.
Is this carried paternal, maternal, or either parent can be a carrier? If either, is there an easy way to determine if mom or dad is the carrier...
She did really well. I worried more than I probably needed to. Had two healthy does for us. She did reject one, so we had to bottle feed but I think that was partly our fault. We were not sure of her due date and when she went, she was in the barn with everyone else. Checked on her at...
I didn't think about the sun - poor girl. She doesn't seem bothered if we touch it, like it is sore or anything. Just looks really bad. At least at the fair she will be in the building most of the time and out of the sun. I will pick up some udder balm tonight and try using that. :)
Hi all.
My DS's 4H show is next week so we washed and clipped the girls this past weekend. We have one doe that looked fine once she was washed and shaved, but has since developed dry flaky skin over her entire torso area - like dandruff. Unfortunately she is a dark colored goat so it really...
The boys were at the vets this weekend to be disbudded. They wanted to wait on the girl, said the buds weren't big enough yet, so she goes back on the 23rd. Our vet recommended banding at 8 weeks or cutting at 10 weeks. Not sure which direction we are going to go yet. Both boys are over 10...
I will see if I can get any better pics tonight. It has been cold and cloudy the last few days. Suppose to finally get sunny again. I do have a vet apt for Saturday, but our vet is an all around farm vet, does not really know goats. The farrier we use for the horses will trim goats feet, but...
Clover had two bucklings on Sunday. When the second one was born, one of his front legs was tucked back and he came out with one foot and head first. Now that they are up and about, I am noticing that he is not putting much weight on that front foot. After looking at it, the hoof is...
That is what I was hoping to hear. If this is the path he wishes to travel, I think it would be a great experience for him. He had the first babies born last week with his farm name so he is excited.
The ADGA Nationals are only about a two hour drive from us this year. We aren't interested in showing at this time but I was wondering if people came to just watch the show? We are not able to get any decent internet at the house, so watching the live stream is out. My 11yo owns the goats and...
When we had the sonogram done two months ago, they only saw two, so the third one was a surprise. I wasn't sure if I needed to do the cocci prevention or not. Seemed from what I was reading, most did. Maybe I will just hang onto it and see how it goes. I really don't like giving meds just to...
Amber gave us triplets on Friday - 2 bucklings and one doeling. She is our first doe to give birth and now I have a ton of questions.
We plan on selling the two boys (not sure about the young lady yet). At what age do you sell them? We plan on leaving them on mom so weaned by 10 weeks sound...
This is our first time breeding so I have never assisted with a birth. We had purchased an older pregnant doe in the spring but she delivered with no issues in between us checking on her at night. I work 8am-5pm so I can't guarantee I would be there if she goes during the day but I can check...
I got her weighed. My DH is off on his weight guessing. She weighs 41 lbs. From what I am reading here, she should be ok to breed. Would you recommend the smaller buck or would either work?
I probably worry about these girls more than necessary. Thanks for all the help!
We have not weighed her. We were picking them up and estimating. The young man holding her is just over 4 feet tall - not sure if that makes a difference. I can try to weigh her tonight and get an official weight.
Good afternoon all. We have a Nigerian Dwarf doe that is quite small compared to our others and I was wondering whether or not it is safe to breed her. She is my son's 4H goat (and first goat) so we would keep her as a pet if that is the way it works out. Stats: Born - May 9, 2016 - 18.5 mo...
We use the Petsafe Keepsafe Breakaway dog collars. There are two rings on either side of the breakaway area that you would clip the leash to when you want to walk them. When there is nothing clipped to the rings, the collar will break away with a small amount of pressure.
I haven't weighed her yet. What are you using to weigh your doe?
I am a little concerned about her. She does run around but her sister seems so much further ahead of her. Her sister is climbing up on stuff and being adventurous - constantly wanting outside. Marshmallow seems to be afraid of...
We are feeding her the medicated feed. Our two younger girls are on it and didn't think about it when we got her. It was the only thing we could get her to eat. I checked with the company and they said that it could be fed to pregnant does. I was planning on changing her over to a...
