We had a young goat that hurt her front leg very badly and couldn't put any weight on it. She hobbled around slowly but always kept up with everyone else and eventually learned how to run on three legs and held her own just fine. Good luck, you will know what the right decision is for your animal.
In our city, UPS will only deliver to the house if it's in town. Other than that, lots of people have to call the courier businesses in town to see if their parcel has arrived. I've heard that sometimes UPS will call or email the customer, but have not heard that consistently. Here's my guess...
Hi Miranda, I live in Terrace! Nice to meet you. :) I was wondering where you get your goat mineral and worming medications? There are some feed stores in town here I can order through, but I am curious about other sources. Do you have a farm animal vet? Anybody you recommend?
Our sick goat (Marlon) showed more energy today, he took a gentle head-swing at another kid that was going for his hay. And he is starting to call out more, which I haven't heard him do too much. I really think he is on the up and up *hope hope hope hope hope*. :) I'm watching his stool closely...
I have solar lights for my house and we use two car batteries to store power. I was also interested in a solar heat lamp, but have been repeatedly told that the power needed to run one is not practical on a small scale because heat takes so much energy; usually energy storage is the challenge...
Thanks everyone for your concern and farming wisdom! I talked to the vet today and they said a fecal was not necessary since I can see the worms in the stool (and since the goats have been drenched already, maybe?); as for a test for coccidia, I will have to wait to hear back from the vet. There...
10 days ago all the goats on the farm were given ivomec. One kid in particular was in a dire state, he was thin and staggering, I think it was a severe case of worms. It took a while but he seemed to be getting better slowly after his deworming medicine. He was showing more signs of enthusiasm...
Here are a few pictures of some of my babies: The first is Elsie, she's my pride and joy! She makes me laugh all the time and is an absolute delight. Elsie changed my life! The brown goat in the second photo is Hershey, she has a light brown "H" birthmark on her hip. The third picture features...
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and new to farming. We are farm sitting sheep, chickens and (my favourite) Boer goats. I found BYH while researching goat health and I'm really happy to have found this community. I can't wait to share pictures of my little goats!
