    Smoke soot cleaner?

There is a product marketed for babies called boogie wipes that are basically baby wipes with saline on them. They really helped when my human kids had crusty noses and I needed to gently clean them. The saline helps loosen things without being irritating. Maybe those would work?

    Weaning dam raised bucklings

Thanks for the advice. The kids are 8 weeks old today, and it is definitely easier right now for everyone to just be out on the pasture. I will give them a couple more weeks and then I may just start with separating the boys during the day for a few weeks to ease the transition. I would start...

    Weaning dam raised bucklings

I have a boer doe with triplets that just turned 7 weeks. She has two bucklings and one doeling. The bucklings are both (still) quite a bit bigger than the doeling and I've been noticing them trying to mount each other, their sister, and my other doelings who are about a month older. I know...

    When to help? Update: Supplementing?

Update again. I weighed everyone again this morning and buck #2 has gained 1.8 pounds since Friday. That is the same as the other two kids gains combined. I guess whatever the issue was, he's got it figured out. Thank goodness! Mama and babies have been in one of the stalls in the barn...

    When to help? Update: Supplementing?

Well, after the first day the girl wouldn't take the bottle either. Mom seems to be doing well at making sure everyone gets a turn, she actually has two functional teats on one half of her udder, like P4 on the ABGA chart and sometimes I see all three nursing at once. I weighed them today to...

    When to help? Update: Supplementing?

I suspected she would have trips and my other doe had issues with engorgement/kids only nursing one side the first week, so I froze everything I milked out of her just in case. I offered the bottle this morning thinking it would be a good idea to introduce it from the start and the doeling took...

    When to help? Update: Supplementing?

Yes, the boys were pretty much the same weights as what my doe who had twins had this year - I was a little surprised they weren't all smaller since there were 3. Oh my, I don't know what I'd do with Nigis!

    When to help? Update: Supplementing?

I just went out and weighed them. Buck #1 8.8 lbs, Doe 6.8 lbs, Buck #2 9.6 lbs. I knew the poor girl was carrying a load!

    When to help? Update: Supplementing?

After watching her just stand there for a while I decided I needed to assist so I got my husband to come and hold her. She had trips, buck, doe, buck. All were correctly presented, but kid #2's sack was trying to come out with kid #1. I ended up assisting with them all. The doe is tiny...

    When to help? Update: Supplementing?

I forgot to answer about deficiencies. I don't suspect any, but I'm not sure what to look for. The goats are on pasture that also has a wooded area for browse and they have loose minerals. They also get a small amount of pelleted goat feed once a day.

    When to help? Update: Supplementing?

Honestly she's acting pretty casual. There really hasn't been much activity with her labor which is what was concerning me. I noticed the first long string of amber discharge probably 8 or 9 hours ago, and it has continued since then but I didn't notice many contractions at all until after I...

    When to help? Update: Supplementing?

I have a boer doe in labor. I think today is day 153. She has had the long amber discharge since 3:00 or so this afternoon. She had separated herself from the herd, bag is full, ligs gone, so I put her in a smaller enclosure with a kidding stall. She doesn't seem to be actively doing much at...

    Keeping goats with horses?

Thanks for your reply. I am thinking that since a lot of people feed horse feed to goats their needs are probably somewhat similar. I think I'll just go ahead and get a horse block for the horse area. I have tried top dressing the goat's feed and they would leave the minerals. The goat's...

    Keeping goats with horses?

I have a herd of 5 boer nannies on about 5 acres and am needing to bring 2 miniature horses to the property. They will share the same pasture but I have separate shelters that have smaller pens around them so that I can keep them separated for short periods of time if necessary. I plan to feed...

    Kid with weak legs

Yesterday afternoon I found a blog post where someone had made a harness out of rubber bands to help keep forward tension on a leg like Violet's so I whipped one up for her, but only left it on for a couple of hours before I took it off for the night. This morning she's walking around like a...
