:weee :weeeGood morning. Opened lowest pasture to sheep. They are enjoying fresh grass and the babbling brook. They will be enjoying dewormer all week too. Some will walk up and take their dose (mixed with molasses) readily. The rest is rodeo. I have ten blackberry bushes to plant. The wild ones...
Morning all. Keep an eye out for reports about a mystery illness in dairy cattle in Eastern New Mexico, Texas panhandle. Also reports of H1N1 found in cow’s milk in roughly the same area. No cattle are dying but milk is being discarded. Ugh. 😑
Drizzling and greening up this morning. I had planned to whack some thistles but it poured late last night so it’s a swamp on parts of the lower pasture. Probably a good idea to worm the sheep. The two latest lambs are thriving. The broody has all her chicks still- good job moms!
Well I tried to avoid it but I had to turn off the block unknown caller function on my phone. The scam calls trickled in then cut loose and Vladinia was forced to screeeen dem. Hubbs was home working when a frequent flier “potty mouth Sam” from American Solar (Pakistani scammer) called. Vladinia...
I read the original article and I read Tyson’s response. The number of asylum seekers (Tyson’s terminology) being offered an opportunity to apply for jobs appears to have been exaggerated, per Tyson. Several news outlets report Tyson is experiencing a “backlash” from consumers. Personally I’m...
@peteyfoozer and @SageHill- a big ten-four on letters. Pf im glad you’re feeling better. I found two nests, 16 eggs in all and according to the water bath test they are all edible (plus my memory- hey there weren’t eggs there two days ago). So steady eggs, standard and bantam size. Want an egg...
I’m preparing for what I hope is the last freeze. Going the blanket route with the peach tree. Had two late lambs, both small. Sold all my breeding age rams. It’s nice not having all the chaos in the pasture and I think the chronically in heat ewe conceived. Now I’ll have to look for a ram. I...
Good morning all. Hubbs came home from work travel sick. He thought he was coming down with something before he left. I’m blaming my sniffles on pine and oak pollen. You can see it collect in the water bunks and my house is dusty green. I plan to fast track chores and errands in case I get sick...
Mouflon, a wild sheep raised and crossed with domestics, have impressive horns but I suspect they and other wild species don’t think much of LGDs. And think of the fencing :barnie
We alll want some income but for myself let the wild ones be themselves.
This isn’t what the Montana guy was raising. A few years ago I saw this breed and thought novelty sells. It’s a Racka sheep from the Transylvania region (is anything normal in that part of the world?). Racka are considered national treasures and not exported. Some semen is available but...
Out of curiosity I researched this critter but thought better of it. AI for starters with an uncertain transfer of characteristics. Semen was expensive and hard to get. And you could poke you eye out.
In theory I could run a lane through the yard to the woods and pond. That area about ? ten acres is old growth oak, misc understory and dewberries. Too hilly to mow, perfect for sheep but the barbed wire fence has been there since God was a boy and that’s the parts I can get to. So a challenge...
A surprise lamb yesterday morning. Small but frisky with a doting mom. Tree pollen everywhere, good thing I don’t get hay fever. Trees are leafing out but the ground is still cool so tomatoes are lounging in the house. Hubbs got me ten blackberry plants, Apache and Arapaho. We can eat wild...
