I installed my first Nuc 5 days ago. I have not opened it yet to check on queen. I have seen 5-10 dead bees on the ground in front of the hive. Is this normal die off?

how cold does it need to get before you insulate your hives in winter? Here in my part of Texas our winter can have several days in the 40s with an occasional night in the near freezing range. Should I prepare to take action? Thanks!
