We are currently dividing our large pastures into smaller fields for rotational grazing for our sheep. We want our Great Pyrenees to be able to go from field to field as she wants. Any ideas on the best way to give her access?
It has been a while since I posted and this one is for a big shout of thanks! Several months ago I posted about my Great Pyrenees being rough with the sheep. I had so much good advice and I can say that for the past 6-7 months I have had Bindi running with our sheep and she is wonderful! She is...
Day and night 1 was a success! On to day and night 2. Bindi is definitely enjoying her freedom and seems to be doing well with the group she’s with. I’m hoping we’ve reached the point where she is can be left free to roam with the herd. She is such a sweet girl.
I haven’t posted in a while, but things are progressing! We’ve been putting Bindi in her big pen at night and letting her out during the day. Behavior is much better. Today we made the decision to leave her out all night. First time since our original problems. I pray she does well!
I introduced Mini Pearl back in January...surprise! It was really Mini Earl
At 4 months we weaned him and today I started working with him on halter training/leading. Go Earl, you did great!
I have been trimming our sheep hooves. I’ve watched all the videos I could find online but all of their sheep stand perfectly still while their hooves are being trimmed and none of them look very bad. Our sheep, on the other hand, have hooves that are over grown, misshapen, etc. I have no...
We’re new to sheep with only having a few born last spring. We have 26 lambs on the ground right now with 8-10 that are between 2-3 months. What are your suggestions on when and the best ways for weaning lambs? Also how long do we need to keep the ewe lambs away from their moms before it’s...
I can get pictures. We wormed them today and watching to see if that helps. They don’t look bloated, best I can tell. Stomachs are low and they are not in distress at all. They are on pasture and fescue hay.
Hershey update... things are going well. We are still feeding her a bottle 3x a day and she’s drinking between 16-18 oz a day plus what she gets from her mom. She is very alert and growing like a weed. She is always very happy to see us!
It’s been a few weeks since I posted and things are going much better. We now have 25 new lambs! We moved Bindi to a large pen right next to the sheep and they actually sleep right up next to her but they can’t get through the wire panels. She is loose 3 times a day to interact with the sheep...
Hershey update-our baby is now downing 6 oz bottles 3x a day and getting a little from mama. Spoke with the vet and he said she has “hard bag” that was probably a result of mastitis sometime in the past and there’s nothing we can do. She is an 11 year old ewe that we’ve only had a year. We...
Went down to feed Hershey this morning and she’s up and moving like any other lamb and she downed a 4 oz bottle! Thank you all for your advice. We’re still working on mama.
