    Goat Polio

Update 1: 12:30 am Gave Rose her first shots ourselves. She already seems to be improving. Better balance and eyesight. Gave her some baby carrots for being a good girl. Never lost her appetite or ability to chase you down for some snacks. Update 2: 6:30 am. She seems about the same if not...

    Goat Polio

I'm resurrecting this because its relevant to my day... Rose is a 6 month old ND. At 6:15 am everything was fine. At 4:30 pm she was shaking, could hardly keep her balance and was blind. We were at the vet by 6:00 pm and she was given thiamine. By 9:00 pm she seemed to be doing much better...

    Hoof issues

Update: The vet came and cleaned Sofia up a bit for me. She gave a zinc injection. She also gave me: Zinpro 120: 1/2 tablespoon with feed once a day for 14 days Oxytet soaked gauze: scrub once a day for 5 days. The great news is she says my little herd seems very happy and healthy!

    Hoof issues

She does chew her feet a little. I have a vet coming by Friday afternoon to take a look. In the meantime I'll order some Nustock, it seems pretty handy. Thanks

    Hoof issues

I'm only 2 month into being a goat owner and I've run into an issue with hooves. I tried soaking in Epsom salt and treating with hoof n heel for 3 days but all that seemed to do was cause pain. Today I tried spraying with Bactine. I have someone coming on Friday to trim her hooves and teach...

    Goat loner

After she threw up she seems to be back to normal. There is some holly in their pen so I'll pull that out. I'm 99% sure I got all of the laurel out before I got the goats and I always look for it when I'm out there. I gave them all probiotics.

    Goat loner

The loner and one of the kids are from the same herd. The other adult (the boss) and the other kid were bought separately. A new twist... For the third time I've come out to a mess in the shed. One of the goats is "vomiting?" I think it's the "loner" bc after each time I've seen this, she...

    Goat loner

I just got my first 4 girls about a month ago. 2 goats are about 2 years old and 2 are just a few months. The last few days I've noticed that one of the adults (who may be 2-3 months pregnant) has been hanging out alone in the chicken run. Not all day, just when the girls all head back to...

    Greetings from the Jersey Shore

My girlfriend and I are new to goats, and while my uncle has had 2 for over a decade and a neighbor has about a dozen, I don't want to bother them with all the questions and comments all of the time. I'm not really interested in milk or meat, but I do have about an acre of very dense brush that...
