For those who are following along here, I'm in the process of moving our compost bins in the garden to another location about 60ft away. We have a 3-bin setup scrapped together. I decided it would be easier to just build a new set of bins and move the compost over rather than pull out all the...
Great info. Thanks!
I think I could do just 2 or 3 litters a year per doe with 2 does and be fine. That would give me 4-6 litters total per year, which should equate to quite of bit of meat.
Replace the breeder does every 2 years and buck every 4 would be doable. I imagine I would raise the...
I love this rabbit and duck house combo. Do you have to heat in the winter? I'm in IL, so I was thinking I would move the rabbits into the heated garage for winter. As for nesting and raising kits, I'm going to repurpose my 3-tier quail hutch for that. I plan to move the pregnant doe to the...
Is such breeding overly aggressive on the does?
I could separate the buck if necessary and introduce him when breeding is desired only like you said. I do like the idea of getting litters frequently though as it would provide a steady meat supply.
Another question, how old do are does and...
I was thinking it would provide cushioning and nesting material since the cages will be used for nursing and rearing kits. Perhaps I'll just add a nesting box/tray for the doe to give birth and nurse the kits.
I thought about this. I will try to go 18" down.
I was slow to updating my profile. My location is in there now though. I'm in IL in the west suburbs of Chicago.
As or pictures, I don't have much yet in terms of the rabbits of course. However, I can share a picture of the hutch my quail are in that I'll look to repurpose for rearing and...
I'm looking to start a rabbit colony and breed them for meat and possibly for sale as pets or breeders if I get to a quality standard.
I would prefer to keep the rabbits in a colony. Is a buck and two does sufficient for a colony? Would the buck over breed he does if there's just two, and at...
Hello,
I've been on BYC for about 2 years now, and I'm coming over to BYH as I look to get into rabbits. Perhaps one day in the future we will have dairy goats, Highland cattle and horses (that's the dream), but we are living on a 1/3 acre suburban plot right now so that's not that type of herd...
