    Feeder pig diet.

I'm in VA. There are 2 different farms I get my lambs from both are about 50 miles from me. I have a bit more than 100 acres. Part is set up for green chop, part for hay, and part for silage. Yes the feed affects the taste of an animal. Depending on the animal it can take a long time to...

    Feeder pig diet.

When I milked cows as a teen we feed chocolate waist from Hershey and cereal waist from Post. A couple times a year we would get semi loads of citrus peals also. Larger farms work with a animal dietitian that searches for usable byproducts to cheapen the feed and increase production. I like...

I market lambs live to people that slaughter and package them there self. We sell them between the 130 and 160 pound mark. A lot of holidays there is a demand for the 80 to 100 pound lambs, but most people will buy what every they can get there hands on. I'm hoping to do the same with the...

Ridgetop Forget the flashbacks and come on over Thursday and Friday. I'm picking up 150ish lambs. They all need to be be weighted, adding into the computer, band all the boys, 7 way shot, and a look over. I can get 50 to 60 lambs per load so it might take 2 days depending on how many they let...

I did see that, but I was also looking at his YouTube channel. I was looking back at some of his videos that are over 60 days old. It clearly shows his views and the view point he comes from.

I watched that last night. I have a lot I want to respond with on a few different subjects that were brought up. I think you need to look up Dr. Rashid before put to much thought into what he said.

RabbitGirl. Your are right about the feed and what it needs to do, but at the same time a lot of the research numbers for more of a factory farming situation. I find there is a market for meat that is the low or zero grain, slow growth, not over crowded, no unneeded drugs, and cage free (chickens).

    Buying 1/2 a Beef?

I you google "ordering 1/2 a cow worksheet" you can read what different custom butchers have out there. After that I would have a talk with your butcher. A lot of times you have to ask for the bones as 90% of the people will not want them.

That winter squash is some hard stuff. I did not know I was getting into a full on work out with that stuff. The runoff in the ponds have been tested a few times a year and always tests good. With out have animals outside, not spreading manure, we compost under cover, and we do not put down...

    Feeder pig diet.

I'm an OK acquaintance with a manager at the restaurant produce company about 10 miles from me. I let him know when everything was shutting down I would take stuff that was old, but still had a few days before it was inedible. I traded him 2 dozen eggs and 2 live chickens for 7 cases of...

Most of the silage I make is a mix of corn, millet, and cow peas. It should have the protean needed for the pigs. I have read a lot on apple silage with pigs. If i could I would feed 1/3 apple silage, 1/3 silage, and 1/3 chopped hay. I know the haylage I make would not work very well as a...

My farming system is set up around the manure / nutrients recycle system. I do not put animals outside. Yes I do a different type of framing. I'm all ears on what to plant after turnips that grow fast. I'm not into buying any feed. Yes I have good ventilation. I plan on replacing the bedding...

    Feeder pig diet.

Yes 100 feeder pigs. They have 2,000 sq' of bedding pack. Studies show 10 sq' per pig, so I'm running them on the light side. I'm still adding to the pack trying to get it to 8" so I can till it daily and top off the wet spots. Yes I do have a smaller lot I can hold them in for short amounts...

I don't have a good cheap source of veggies and wish I did. I truly don't want the pigs and wanted another round of lambs. As I have never raised a group of pigs and from what I have read there easy to raise.

    Feeder pig diet.

We ended up with 100 weaned pigs to feed out this year. It's our first time with more than 2 pigs. They will be kept indoors on a large wood shaving type bedding. There currently about 2 months old. Were feeding them 1/6 dry brewers grain, 1/3 silage, 1/3 cheap hay, and 1/6 chopped potatoes...
