    Goat with Listeriosis

Unfortunately because it's the weekend I can't go to the vet. My boyfriend should be able to help me prop him against the stable wall when he wakes up (he works 3rd). I was going to try to use a syringe to see if I can get any water into his mouth. Thanks.

Just wanted everyone to be aware we had a livestock dog having problems with sores on his paws. After much investigation we found he had a yeast infection on his paws and had to undergo many shots and pills because of how late we cought it. We still don't know what caused it but it's something...

    Kid with yellow diarrhea

We have a kid that was born yesterday. The birth went smoothly although the doe did take a bit longer than normal to pass the afterbirth. He was a single but that was expected because the doe had a single last year too. This morning we went out and noticed he had yellow runny diarrhea. I think...

Husband wants goats and I'm terrified of goats...

Goats that have been disbudded properly won't get grow horns back actually the horns they grow are called spurs and usually really painful for the goat which might have caused his aggression. A properly disbudded goat is usually pretty decent. We have males with and without horns and I rarely...

    Swollen teats

We had a goat give birth during an ice storm. We were not there for the birth itself bc she gave very little notice but it was so cold her kid he could not nurse. She was a first time mom and was unsure about the whole process. We ended up having to bring him inside to bottle feed and warm him...

LGD / Livestock Guardian Dog Breed Page Project (Need Pictures too)

I love the Pyrenees. They are great with people and other dogs but they do their job for anything they feel doesn't fit in that category. I've also found they can sense when someone has bad intentions and they will be defensive accordingly. They are smart and trainable IF they feel like it's...

    drying up milking

Sorry didn't see you didn't give grain at first.. Alfalfa is super high in protein so pulling back on that might help. Just milk her a bit a couple times a day to relieve pressure and that should help dry her up. Just be sure to not milk her dry or she'll keep producing more to fill her utters.

We have a mini-farm with goats, chickens, and guineas. If anyone wants to take goats or how to keep your guineas from running off and getting eaten please let me know! I love them all and I want them so to have the best life! We also have a couple of dogs if anyone wants to chat about those.

    drying up milking

I know when we had to fast dry a doe and we just completely stopped grain and only milked her a bit just to relieve pressure twice a day for a week. After that we went to once a day for a couple days until we weren't getting much more than a couple ounces then stopped completely and she seemed...

Newborn Kid listless and not sucking

Update: he survived the night. He's started bottle feeding and is trying to run around and get into stuff. We tried to see if the mom would take him back but she wants nothing to do with him. He's going to be a bottle baby I guess. Thanks for your advice!

Newborn Kid listless and not sucking

We brought him in and were able to milk the mom. It was a challenge... I offered the milk to the kid and he wouldn't drink any but he's suddenly a lot more lively. We think he's looking for his mom now. We just have to get him to take the bottle.

Newborn Kid listless and not sucking

Our doe gave birth to twins at 3am. We were not there because she wasn't showing many signs before it happened. By the time we got there one kid had passed. We think it was stepped on by another goat or a dog. The other kid was fine but she wasn't paying too much attention to it. We dried it...
