Hahaha I wish! He was actually a purebred jersey, later on his face got darker, just like a normal jersey. The only hides we keep are sometimes the lambs.. but we never do anything with them :P
Okay! I found out he loves his neck and chest scratched, so that will also be a reward for when it isnt food time. I'll get some pictures tomorrow!!! He sure is cute.
So, last year I showed a spotted jersey veal calf in the fair-it was a complete disaster... He learned that he could lie down to get out of work once he was too big, and there was no getting him up. Very stubborn. This year, the farm as gotten two new veal calves, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo. I...
Thanks! School has been really busy and stressful recently, especially with the algebra haha! I have to take a little time off to go visit Joy and her two new babies soon!
Just an update... I have been taking these lessons just about every weekend now, but took a huge break over december/january. I've mastered controlling Dreamer, and we've had really good lessons the last few times. The things I have been working on are: heels down, sitting deeper in the saddle...
So.. sugarcubes. The classic horse treat! But are they good for horses? Do most horses like them? Does it give them more energy just like a kid on a sugar rush? Also, what would be the limit per day? Thanks, DOG
My friend has been riding for 12 years, and she just recently bought a filly and has trained it to ride "her way". Accidentally, her horse got pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful little colt... so she plans on training yet another one! She says it takes LOTS of time and patience.
The best for your personal situation is the haflinger mule IMO, however I just couldn't see him being that pretty... So I would probably go with the pure haflinger because he's also older and probably better trained.
My farmer friends say they've raised almost all the turkey breeds.. They say their favorites are narragansetts. They're pretty, friendly, non-flighty, and good mothers. However the commercial broad-breasteds are EXTREMELY skittish, off the wall, and they can't be normally bred if you decide to...
My chickens all have personalities too! I have one that used to jump on my back, but since she was almost always dirty, I discouraged that behavior. I also have one that is shy and reserved but when you hold her and put her on your lap she will just fall asleep.
I would never use a cattle prod on a goat! However a sharp slap across their nose, spritz of water, with bucks you can even kick them a little if they're being bad. If it's really bad you can trip them/get them to the ground, or you can carry a horse riding crop which, with a loud NO, will...
Awww! I love the black obies... Although we have only traditional bucks, we have a few black obies which we will occasionally get black kids from. You can also get them from two traditionals, too.
When I leased a cow, he LOVED being brushed. I would go out to the pasture while he was lying down, lie down with him and brush and scratch away. I agree, curry combs work great for getting dirt/mud/dust out, and if you want him to be extra smooth and clean, you can use an average brush (The...
Thanks! Don't you love obers? They're so calm and willing (Most of the time) I think theyre also one f the smartest breeds... 3 of the goats in the herd can open latches
Oh and when I am working with or I just want to spoil the goats, I can give licorice flavored goat treats to them which they LOVE and will do anything for, or some un-popped kettle corn from a local orchard that gives it away for FREE, which is almost always good!
