Miniature horse lame on both fronts

do you have a small holed hay bag? If not you definitely should get one asap. Hay burners on etsy has good ones, and a lot of people swear by hay chix. I get the smallest holed ones for my mini donks and the one mini horse. That way, the hay lasts longer when theyre on limited rations. With...

Miniature horse lame on both fronts

Also, what condition are her feet in- has she been trimmed recently? When she walks, can you tell if she's favoring a certain part of the leg? Founder does seem likely, but its good to rule out other possibilities.

Miniature horse lame on both fronts

What is her weight like? Have you checked her hooves for injury? Any heat or swelling in her legs? Laying down is a super bad sign, horses need to be up to breath properly. What are you feeding?

    Coffee anyone ?

Hope everyone is still holding up alright! We just got hit around 12pm while I was still trying to replenish water and deep bed everyone. Of course. But I'm in now and watching it blow and gust. Wondering how many of our pines in the living barn in the pasture will come down. (We're expecting...

    TheFarmOfDreams- a long awaited adventure

I hope everyone is surviving this blizzard well! It is just hitting us. It was kind enough to start before I emptied the manure and disconnected the fence (I'm hoping if it isn't tensioned, it doesn't snap all the connectors). But everyone is cozy inside now. Luke the crazy qh was very happy to...

I'm so glad to see how well she's doing with you! She learns so fast, I bet she'll be a solid, reliable girl in no time. I gotta recommend this diet, if you haven't seen it. https://www.hoofrehab.com/Diet.html It's mostly hay once you get her up to weight, and my equines do so well on it. My...

I lost a wonderful doe but don't know why

I'm so sorry for your loss! The tooth grinding and the scream sound like pain to me. Poor girl :( I don't have insight for you, but if you use Facebook, and don't get great feedback here, there is a group that's amazing for this kind of thing. Rabbits inside out. If you have pictures of what...

    TheFarmOfDreams- a long awaited adventure

Phew! What a busy week. I've gotten a ton done the past few days and it feels SO GOOD. I hate when I'm busy all day but never check off anything I need to do. But I've gotten half the hay moved down stairs in the barn. I gave up on that darn water tank, but I figured out a better plan to do, if...

    TheFarmOfDreams- a long awaited adventure

Good to know! I'm expecting to do a lot of amending in the garden area. I just need my tractor (hopefully these trees are buying me one!) so I can manage my manure pile for better composition. Then I'll have lots of beautiful soil. 😁 I definitely am hoping to get my local cornell office to help...

    TheFarmOfDreams- a long awaited adventure

I couldn't stand it anymore. The tree machinery is all way back so I went out and explored the garden and pasture. 😍😍😍😍 Here's my (future) garden and dry lot. And a bunch from the silvopasture and living barn This soil is going to be so rich when all this wood breaks down.

    Farmerjan's journal - Weather

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well! I hope you feel better soon. I live on Theraflu when I feel like that.. .something about hot, tea-like medicine makes it feel more effective. It's probably all in my head, but we ALWAYS have some in the house. Soup is definitely the way to go! We made a big...

    Baymule’s Journal

I'm glad it was mild! We've had it through our place 3 times now. Despite trying our darndest to stay safe, hubby keeps getting exposed at work. The first 2 were BRUTAL but the 3rd was just a nasty cold for a weekend. Your closet is looking awesome! Yay for refound energy. I feel you on...

    TheFarmOfDreams- a long awaited adventure

Oh goodness, all of that is SO helpful! Thank you. I understand now that you were trying to keep the tension and split the taught wire down the middle without either end loosening. Got it. I was imagining a run of fence and only the end. 😁 And i definitely plan on the better bolts. We've...

    TheFarmOfDreams- a long awaited adventure

oh definitely. And I think enough has melted that we can possibly plough through some trails. Ought to wear him out. As much as that's possible with this crazy monster. (he's 25 going on 2, i swear. I can't wait for him to be able to be at pasture as much as possible.). But what ever virus I...

    Your farm/ranch feature must-haves!

I'd read up on some basic permaculture stuff. A lot of their philosophy is about making your work easier- ie rotating pasture in a certain order so you don't have to do poop management, garden placement to make it easier to maintain, etc. If you're somewhere that it freezes, and you can get an...

    Coffee anyone ?

good afternoon! It's another 50* day. Thank goodness most of our 70" of snow is melting... although the giant piles in front of the apartments aren't going anywhere. I have a feeling I'm going to have to find and pay someone to remove them, or those apartments are sooooooooo going to flood...
