Mom looks like she’s blackbelly, dad could also be a blackbelly that’s just hidden by the black.

I wonder if and deficiencies can even cause this though.

Skin (?) peeling off lambs leg

Sh She spends half the day outside either in our sheep pen or our backyard, then the other half of the day she spends inside either roaming the house or in a dog crate with a dog bed during the night. It doesn’t really seem like she spends a whole lot of time laying down, but that might be...

Skin (?) peeling off lambs leg

I have a bottle lamb who was born with a bent spine; it self corrected but I noticed the skin on her leg was… flaking? Almost like a scab. Does anyone know what this is, how to treat it, or really just what I should do? She doesn’t seem bothered by it in the slightest.

    Painted desert sheep-genetic Color theory

Alright today I have a couple of corrections to make. First off, a correction in the cinnamon portion; chocolate x fawn in theory will give you 100% cinnamon, not 33% each. Second off, I believe the dorsal stripe is a modified version of the black belly gene, so if a sheep has a black bellied...

    Painted desert sheep-genetic Color theory

We’re trying for spots and color too. Juniper and her brother are the first generation out of a promising new ram, and so far everything out of him is turning out better than we ever expected. He has a dorsal stripe and carries one copy of the cinnamon gene, and seems to be carrying a dominant...

    Painted desert sheep-genetic Color theory

I like how “loose” the color can be, it gives me a challenge when deciding pairings lol. I work with mostly cinnamons (you might have been able to tell by the paragraph I wrote about them specifically) and this lambing season was a mess. We thought cinnamon to cinnamon would give us cinnamon, so...

    Painted desert sheep-genetic Color theory

Painted desert sheep are a breed of hair sheep known to come in a variety of colors and patterns- and often times people will tell you that predicting what you will get from a pairing is near impossible, and after studying different pairings, and what resulted, I’ll be documenting my theories...

    Lamb with severely curved spine

Y Yes they do. We let them know immediately. They were the fist person to suggest a selenium deficit, after which we asked a couple of sheep friends and they all said something similar. Here are the pictures! (First one’s are more recent) she’s gotten to the point where she can drink 6oz each...

    Lamb with severely curved spine

I’m intending on trying to convince them to let me have her, but ultimately if they decide that they want to keep her then I can’t do much. Although, I highly doubt that they will since her color and pattern isn’t phenomenal, especially compared to her twin brother. Chances are that’s the case...

    Lamb with severely curved spine

I contacted another person who had a similar issue, and they said that with theirs, the spine straightened over time. I wonder though if we could have some sort of back brace to keep her spine straight while she grows? Idk just a thought.

    Lamb with severely curved spine

S she’s passed poop regular. It seems when she lies down the curve softens. As for the vet visit, I was recently informed she’s from a ewe that belongs to a family member who we made a deal with to let them breed a couple ewes to our ram, and so final say on whether she goes to the vet is up to...

So f So far, she’s doing good. She’s doing just as good, if not better than my two previous bottle babies. I’ll update in the morning.

    Lamb with severely curved spine

She’s actually doing pretty well. Eating, sleeping, even hobbling around from time to time. After discussing with a friend with a lot of sheep knowledge, she says an excessive amount of selenium deficiencies with similar symptoms have been popping up this year. She doesn’t seem to be in any...

    Lamb with severely curved spine

today I had a set of twin lambs, and all was normal looking until I went in to get a closer look. Healthy baby got up as I approached, other lamb tried, but it ended up giving up and laying in a splayed position. Propped up the baby and that’s when I noticed the spine is severely curved. This is...
