We just bought a 75% mini Jersey calf, the other 25% is an odd mix of mostly other mini breeds. We intend to raise her up, halter train, all that good stuff now while she is young. My questions are, what tests, vaccines etc will we need to do (if any) as she will be our family milk cow in a...
We were given three yearling male llamas, of course they are intact. We plan and putting them with our goats when they are old enough to geld. my question is, can I put male goats in the them now? I know I can't put them with the does, but it would sure be nice to be able to run my bucks with...
For those who do their own goat processing, do you have to hang and age the meat before cutting and wrapping or do you kill, chill and cut and wrap? I always thought you hung everything to age some, found out today no need to do that with pork, so, do I need to hang my goat? I have one that...
This is my new Nubian buckling, couldn't resist as the owners needed him gone and made me a fantastic deal. His name is Gandalf the Wonderful, husband named him....He comes from great milking lines, though I couldn't tell you what they are at the moment.......
Three months old.
So I had an over abundance of milk so I started freezing it, now my question, what can I use this frozen milk for? Will I be able to separate it with a cream separator or use for cheese?
Thanks!
I stake my young girls out on the weekends to help with the food bill, they have a small pasture that is green with some forage in it, plus we give them hay at night, yesterday they were out all day no problem, today put them out and two hours later went to check on them and WOW left side was...
How is the milk after you remove the cream? Is it still yummy? My Guernsey's give a good rich milk, I think I could get a fair amount of cream from it, but I don't want to ruin the taste by removing the cream. I am going to get a separator pretty soon, I am just curious.
Anyone do it? I wouldn't but she is getting too agressive with the other goats. If she didn't have horns I would just let them work it out, but I don't want to come home and have someone's side ripped open. I know it happens, the dairy I got my Guernsey's from still has goats with scars from...
Wow, I just started milking goats again after about 15 years off. Since then have been working in an office on the computer, now that I started milking, and got that many years older......my hands go numb at night...any one else have this? Started about a week after milking began.
I am milking a Nubian everyday, her milk is pure white, creamy and yummy, I also milk a Guernsey, her milk is a creamy color, but equally yummy... Any one know why one is pure white and one is off white? Different fat content maybe?? If one didn't taste good I could maybe understand the...
I recently got BACK into goats. Had them about 20 years ago, but I don't remember them being as much fun back then. I get home from work and they are talking to me! My one little wild girl (I posted earlier about her and another that hated me and were scared to death of me), now is a milking...
Our doe kidded and we were not there at the time, we decided since we had other bottle babies we would bottle her also, she has been on a bottle over a week now, how long until there is no Mom/Baby connection? They were together almost a day.....I would like to put my bottle babies out with the...
This is my first time giving my goats CD/T, it says 2 ml per goat, even babies? The doe was never treated before I got her, and neither are the rest of my goats. So my question is, do adults and month olds get the same amount?
This is going to be my herd sire....he is one day old.
Here is the rest of the family, Aspen and her doelings.
:celebrate :weee
I pick him up next weekend!!!
Anyone feed kelp, and if so how do you feed it, free choice or mixed with other feed?? Also where do you buy it, local or orderd in?
What are the benefits that you have seen?
I feed it and would like to find a better place to purchase it. I ordered mine in a 10 pound bag, but would like a...
How many people are on multiple forums? I have been visiting a few and honestly don't care for them much, think I will keep my activity here. This is the one that most closely matches my practices.
I was on a different goat forum and they advise to do pelvic exams before birth?!?!? I asked why and they said they advise that so they know early if the babies are positioned correctly, but the few that I have been reading have always been far too early, doe not even in labor, seems to me that...
How soon do you all put your does with kids back with the herd? I only have two other does, they are due in the next month or so, how old should the new babies be before they will be fine with others? I put them out during the day on the weekend but didn't leave them at night, but during the...
