Many use this as prevention and/or treatment. With or without medicated feed. Depending on your area.
And yes you can get it without a prescription and it's much cheaper than it used to be (from what I'm reading).
Our last conversation about this was in 2011... So anybody using it?... I'm liking the idea of only having to use it once every three weeks. From what I have read the dosage is 1 ml per 5lbs body weight. Her is where you could buy it...
From my little experience:
Jaz: 1st year: twins, 2nd: single, 3rd: single
Mack: 1st: twins, 2nd: triplets, 3rd: twins
(jaz and mack are twin sisters)
My first timers from last year 2 had singles 1 had twins, they are still pregnant this year.
We breed late.
Pull, not being able to contain his heat is a reason to pull him. I had to pull one last year for that reason. During the warmest parts of the day I would but a modified dog sweater on him and take him out in the pasture. Of course I have LGD that I could give him to and say "watch him" and...
1st ideal - mom nursing
2nd ideal - you bottle feeding and mom taking care of baby
last choice - baby comes inside
That's how me run things. If the kid is warm enought leave it outside and bring it bottles and let mom take care of it.
Maybe someone will be here soon that can help you. I think I just read the directions the one time I did it. If I remember right, I milked her out - did the infusion - I think you wait a certain amout of time 24 hrs maybe and these milk her out again.
Have you checked her udder for heat, lumps, cuts, rawness, etc???? After all that... Can she be milked?
After that if you have to pull them will she protect them from the herd?
Then... goat burgers... Too many good mothers out there to mess with a bad one. IMHO...
I have luted for reasons other than a "serious" health risk. To each it's own. I would watch for heat and then lute if she doesn't come into heat. Two reasons, one you will miss a show season and two you will have non-registered kids.
