My Holland Lop's ears got frostbit a week ago, he was outdoors until then and is now indoors. A couple days ago I noticed he had some sores on his ears, and took a paper towel to them and they seemed like they were healing. I have kind of left them alone and not cleaned them up, but today I...
I clipped my babies. I didn't like it because they didn't look so cute anymore. I love it now that their coats are growing back. :)
Eden Before Clipping
1 month or so after clipping
Cayenne before clipping
2-3 weeks after clipping
With the herbs I am using I only treat as soon as I see loose poo. I am sure I should be using it preventative, but the GI Sooth has so far ALWAYS stopped the scours/loose poo right in it's tracks so I don't feel the need to use it as a preventative.
In case anyone is interested. I have been using the herbal formula GI Sooth very well here. This summer has been pretty rainy and yucky. I have not had any fecals so I don't know if all my cases of scours have been cocci, but I'm sure a few that were otherwise unexplained were. Anyways, at first...
I know a number of you are familiar with the pregnancy issues I've been having with my girls since early in this year. To recap I have had 4 does (3 different does, 1 twice now) that I and others thought for SURE were pregnant, yet months and months have passed and none of those does have yet to...
For a Nigerian you won't be reaching 40-50lbs for a number of months, I have not ever weighed any of my goats so I could be off, but I know I can still easily pick up my 3mo babies, and I cannot easily pick up a 50lb bag. I'll have to ask my husband how much he thinks Gusto weighed, because an...
I would go with barley. Given as a grass for fodder it is INCREDIBLE high in vitamins, minerals and has a good balance of preotein etc. As a grain it's nice. Not to mention it's REALLY cheap!
Is the $25 they are charging just for processing all the meat you have already cut off, or is that for you taking them the dead animals and they butcher and process it for you?
Just a week ago we butchered 2 of our goats, a 6 year old doe that should have been culled long time ago because of...
I use small 1 gallon buckets. My goats only drink fresh water anyways, so I fill them up with fresh water 3x a day and they do fine. For feed I have a tin wash tub that I use for the bucks, and my husband built a feeder for the girls. It's just a platform with legs and rails that are far enough...
Most of my girls should give around two qts a day. I still don't know for sure yet if that it exactly how much I'll get because the only one I have in milk right now I mismanaged it and she is down to 2 C a day as well. I am going to try milking her numerous times throughout the day for a couple...
Not all goats are this way, but I and a number of other in this area have had some goats that something in their genetics makes them nearly impossible to walk on a leash. They ALL totally freak out and end up getting dragged no matter how much you train them.
If he is related to your doe I would go ahead and wether him. Coloring counts for nothing except pleasing the eye, and with Nigerians, so far my experience has been that you have no idea what coloring your going to get from whom. None of the babies I have seen so far look ANYTHING like their...
I use masking tape and here is what I do. Bear in mind this is a Nigerian Dwarf. :)
I take one long strip, and run it from where the bag connects to the teats, down the whole teat and up the other side. Then I put a ring around the top part of the teat, right where the bag and teat join. I...
I was giving it to them from our hose. The water that was in the hose warming up was fine, but once that ran out and they got well water it was too cold.
The temperature I give it to them at now is about the perfect temperature to go swimming in on a hot day. Cool enough to cool you down, but...
My goats drank hardly any water, until I stopped giving it to them cold. I started giving them warm/cool water even on hot days and they drink it right down. My goats like to drink fresh water, if it's sat for a while they don't like it and will only drink it if they have to.
I haven't read all the pages, so I just wanted to ask if there might be a mineral they might be getting, or not getting that inhibits or is needed to properly absorb the iron?
