I have an Alpine wether who is 1 1/2 years old. He is disbudded and friendly. His mother is CAE negative and he has had CD-T shots.
I'm selling him because I initially kept him as a companion for my intact buck, but the buck doesn't seem to bother with him too much.
I'm located in Jackson NJ...
Hi Erschrack!
I'm in Jackson. I have laying chickens, meat chickens and Alpine goats. Be forewarned... decide how many of these animals you want and then double (or triple) it. That's what you'll end up with! LOL!!!
I know one definitely was. By this time they have all usually come into season, and every doe I plan to breed this year has been bred previously with no problems. I'm concerned about my buckling's lack of interest. I've never bred my does to such a young male, so maybe I'm expecting him to be...
I have a 6 month old Alpine Buckling that has not shown any signs of coming into rut. This is the first time I've bought a male, preferring to breed to bucks leased from others. I have been told that a buckling would be able to breed a doe at 3 - 4 months of age, but this guy has no interest and...
Okay... I think this is a public page. I don't want to send my friend's info publically, so email me at janharing@verizon.net and I'll send you an email back.
I don't mind at all! :) I'm not the ultimate authority but if I don't know the answer to a question I'll tell you!
And I don't know much about Toggs. LOL!!! (although I think they're gorgeous!)
I was at a friend's farm this morning and she has two Nubians in milk. They are for sale and one is...
I like my Alpines because, although they can be stubborn, they aren't as noisy as Nubians and have better milk production than Nigerians. However, everyone has their own tastes in breeds, just like some people like Poodles and some like Labs! I have one Alpine that seems to have slightly off...
:welcome
You're not alone. I'm just lurking! I'm in Jackson and have Alpine goats, quail, layers and meat chickens.
If you're looking for goats I have some for sale. If you're not quite ready, there's a goat show on Aug 9th at the state fair in Augusta. Judging starts at 9:00. You might...
I have two Alpine bucklings for sale. They have been wethered, are up to date on CD-T shots and have been disbudded. Their dams are registered as recorded grade and the sire is registered. The dams are CAE negative.
Their dates of birth are 4/14/14 and 4/26/14 and they are ready for their new...
I have an Alpine buckling that I need to sell. He was born on 4/14/14. Unfortunately, my regular vet was on vacation and I used another vet that botched the disbudding, so he has horns which is why I do not want to keep him. He is not registerable because his mother is recorded grade, although...
Just an update...
Chip is now 4 months old and is extremely friendly. Rosie was born in the spring of last year, so she is around 1 1/2 years old. Please let me know if you're interested and I'll email pictures. I can't figure out how to post them!!! :P
I have a year old Alpine Doe (Rosie) and and 11 week old Alpine/Nubian Wether (Chip) for sale.
I am selling Rosie because she does not compete well with my other goats. She is constantly being pushed away by the others. I have tried feeding her separately, but I honestly don't have the time to...
DOB is 5/21/12 (5 weeks). He has been disbudded and will receive 2 CD-T shots before being castrated at 8 weeks. His mother has just been certified CAE negative. She is the doe in my profile picture. He will be ready to sell after he has healed from his castration, probably around the end of...
One other thing that I've heard will produce a goaty flavor in cheese is if the milk that is used is older. It could be that the woman you got the cheese from made it with milk she wanted to get rid of before it went bad.
My cheese doesn't have a goat flavor. I have Alpines.
How do you use a Floating Thermometer? Do you just put the whole thing in the milk and read the temp as it floats? I bought one but am unsure how to properly use it.
Thanks so much for all the replies! :D
For now I'm filtering into quart jars so the milk stays separate. So far, so good! There really isn't that much difference in taste so I guess I can mix it together. I was a little nervous about if one goat had a problem (although I never had milk problems...
This is the first year I bred more than one doe. I did a search because I felt rather stupid for posting this question, but I'm afraid I'll do something wrong that will affect the milk. So...
When milking more than one doe do you milk them out separately and combine the milk or do you have to...
