    Goats on a Dry Lot

No, I've had them roughly 6 months now. I know barber pole worms but the vet didn't go into detail. She only said that they were mildly wormy and needed to be treated again. She recommended that I put them on a regular routine of deworming since they are on a dry lot.

    Goats on a Dry Lot

I am new to goats. I have 3 small breed goats. One is a Nigerian dwarf and the other two are mixed breeds. They are mostly just pets, but I was hoping to breed and milk them in the future. They have an 8x12 shed and a 30x60 paddock that they stay in. When we are outside and able to watch...

    Questions regarding PBP

Just wondering... notice how much hair the boar has? And how smooth his skin is? The sow doesn't have nearly as much hair and along her back, the skin is dry and flaky. Is this because she is so much older? Is there anything I can do to help it? It must itch terribly. Although, look at that...

    Questions regarding PBP

This is "Bacon" the boar. He is much smaller than the sow. And this is "Porkchop", the sow. She is due to farrow at any time.

    Questions regarding PBP

Thank you for your response. I picked up my pigs on Monday and they are settled in nicely. The boar is a bit skittish so we need to work with him to turn him into a "pet". Meaning happy to see us, eager to eat out of our hands, and following us around so that we can let him out of his pen to...

    Questions regarding PBP

I am acquiring a breeding pair of pbp. I have searched the web for information regarding housing, feeding, etc and everything I read is geared for indoor pet pigs. The sow I'm getting is already bred and due to have her litter any time. I'm assuming she will need to be seperated from the boar...

    Nigerian Dwarf vs Pygmy Buck

I've always thought that "pygmy" was a term used interchangeably with "miniature" or for the myotonic breeds. But I guess if I understand correctly that there is an African pygmy which is a different breed altogether from the myotonic. Can anyone tell me the difference between the two?

    Nigerian Dwarf vs Pygmy Buck

Thanks for the input. I guess it wouldn't hurt to sell a kid or two to help pay for hay. Worth considering I guess.

    Nigerian Dwarf vs Pygmy Buck

I wish that were true for all cities. People need to be more self reliant. Even if they are only pets, one of these days they might appreciate a goat who COULD be milked if needed.

    Nigerian Dwarf vs Pygmy Buck

That makes sense. I've never met a mature buck that didn't have the goatie smell. ha ha Naaa, not really interested in selling the offspring so that's why I was considering a pygmy... just for our own consumption. Thanks for the reply.

    Nigerian Dwarf vs Pygmy Buck

I am getting some nigerian dwarf does in the upcoming weeks. I plan to breed them for family milk/cheese/soap purposes. When I was looking at the nigerians I noticed that the breeder's buck didn't have a "goatie" smell but it was obvious he was in rut. 1) Is this common with Nigerians? 2)...

    I'm a shepherd!

Ok maybe that's a bit of an overstatement. But... I do have sheep now. I picked up 3 black bellied barbados yesterday. They are hair sheep and won't have to be sheared. I have 3 ewes and the breeder is going to sell me a ram later this fall to go with them. They are mainly for pets and...

    gaining your goats

It also depends on the quality of pasture that they're on. Best thing to do is feed them and adjust amounts to condition of goats. Some grain twice a day, some grain only once. I currently have 9 goats (8 boers 1 alpine). A few of them were a bit thin when I brought them home so I started...

    Cheapest Place to get goats

Auctions can be a good place to buy pet/grade goats. And you can get them VERY cheap that way. However, I would advise you to do three things. 1. Take someone with goat experience with you to check out any animal you consider. 2. Deworn, Vaccinate, and Quarentine the animal/s for at least 28...
