I've heard of mini pigs but what miniature breeds of pigs are in the us? Do they go by the same care as the average outside pigs? Meaning are they okay with just a enclosed shelter? or do they require *special* heated housing? Just curious as pot belly pigs are still Very Large.
Good Questions :) Sorry I can't help in answering them... :/ but I'll be watching for the answers. :) I've thought of getting some angora goats myself, they're beautiful. Although as a breeding buck would do the whole pee-thing & stink, I'm not sure the buck's fiber would be as usable? The smell...
Just AWEFUL!!! At a "rescue" you'd think the animals wouldn't need "rescued" from that kind of foot care, Yikes! Yeah, Especially in this economy it's so sad that that large a group of Llamas are in need of homes. What were they thinking? :somad :idunno Crazy People!
So sorry to hear. :hit That's horrible no matter the breed or age. :( I feel for you. :hit We love them all.
I agree too on the not giving up. Education & perseverance I always say. I have rotational grazing for my geese, & despite all the research & great care I give them... due to...
I have no experience with a downed goat.... but oddly enough my parents had a cat that happened to be stepped or maybe kicked on by one of the horses & was in aweful shape. No outward signs of injury...no bleeding, etc. But was barely walkin on his hind legs. dragging one leg something aweful. So...
Yea the whole dog thing would be hard to get around, but I've heard of spinning dog hair & that the "dog" smell only comes from the dog & once it's washed & cleaned it's just like any other fiber.......just of lesser quality than the average fiber animals. ;) Not that I've spun it personally. :)...
Awe he's ADORABLE!!! :) Take him home! ;) Sid wants a brother I'm sure! :D Sounds like he needs a "Good Home" unlike his current owner.............Bears sheesh, he's not asking much from the little guy! :ep :(
:ep Wow I didn't know that! Thanks for the info. I've never fed corn to mine, but also never came accros anywhere saying it was bad for them. I've read the whole Oats are bad but rolled are fine. & to my understanding wheat is okay...though I don't think I've ever given any camelid any.
Even...
.............I agree definately get "Storeys Guide to Dairy Goats", it's a GREAT BOOK I agree with a WEALTH of info. You can get it at Tractor Supply for usually less than $20.00 I got it & read Everything I could from www.backyardchickens.com, www.backyardherds.com & also www.fiascofarm.com...
I was looking into Angora or maybe cashmere goats & wondered what they cost? I have dairy goats & know goat care, etc. & relatively what they cost, but I'm unable to find many fiber goats for sale for price comparison.? Any info would be appreciated. :)
So sorry of your loss. :( :hit It's the worst to loose a beloved pet of any kind, even if it is a larger animal... I myself get so attached that it's aweful when something happens to them. :( :hugs
Pros are that alpacas are smaller than Llamas so when doing vaccinations or worming it's easier to administer to a smaller animal, vs a larger Llama. But the few alpacas I have are Waaay spunkier & put up more of a fuss over messing with them. They do have nice fiber but are more costly than a...
WOW what a WONDERFUL Book!!! There are answers to questions I never even thought to ask. This book is pricy, but worth EVERY penny. I'm not some who enjoys reading for the sake of reading but I love researching things I'm interrested in -to get a "Full" rounded knowledge & for Alpacas this book...
Beautiful lil guy! Looks like he's disguised as an alpaca. He just looks small, but Adorable just the same. :) Nice to see a recovery story! :clap :thumbsup
Even my young dry does are trained to jump up onto the stanchion for some treats while they get vaccinations, worming, hoof care, dress a cut, etc. I have a full size regular stanchion & a smaller one for my lil guys. So when anyone has gotten loose (even my buck) they want to hang around on or...
I too have a septic system (living in the back woods, lol). I use Clorox Anywhere Sanitizing Bleach Spray, I clean my milking equipment as I would any dirty dish. But before I use my equipment I spray the Clorox Anywhere bleach into my milking jars, white lids & permanent filter... with a few...
It wouldn't have to be an Angora or even a registered goat, just a good fiber goat..... but I can't even come across ANY in my area. Not even an ad or posting for a mix breed fiber goat like a Pygora. Is this common in other areas? Are they really that rare to come across? :caf
