Some goats get is ck from the stress of transport and moving, maybe that had something to do with it? I alway wonder when one day they were healthy and jumping around then the next they are sickly. Keep in mind too that parasites are opportunists and they attack when immune defenses are down.
Can't see why not. A friend of ours does that and milks in the evening cause it's more convenient for them and they haven't had any problems due to it.
My Nigerians get loud anytime they see a human being, I think it's probably a wanting attention thing. Also some goats are just loud and some are more laid back, one of my four is just loud lots of the time for no known reason. My others are all quiet as long as they have hay and they don't see...
I would venture a guess that she is close, in the second photo she looks a bit open, and my third freshener looked like that for a few days before she kidded, none of mine have looked that way unless they are close to kidding.
I knew bucks were more testy than does but yikes this guy takes the cake! He is 9 weeks old and we used some livestock fencing we had leftover to make him an enclosure and is is literally flinging himself into the fencing about 3 feet up so he can squeeze through the larger squares. It's...
I think staying on a good schedule is important, I milk my doe within an hour of the same time period every day. (only milk once a day right now since she has a kid on her). Also I love my Henry milker, makes milking a piece of cake. I totally recommend them, especially to a new milker, so much...
Could you dig a ditch in one corner for the water to runoff into? I am in Maine too and it has been so wet, we have a penned in area with a small pond and the water all heads in that direction which has been nice. Maybe if you dug a spot the water could pool in one area instead of taking over?
I have 3 nd's and one is in milk, a bag of grain lasts us 2-3 months. I give my milker 3.5 cups a day, the other two goats get one cup shared between them.
I give them free choice hay or graze them too. I think that's way too much grain to be going through!
Hay is way cheaper than grain, at...
Wow, two sets of quads in one year, what a blessing :) your garden looks just lovely too! When in the year did you plant spinach? We are in Maine too and none of our plants are as big as yours! I enjoy watching your blog and seeing another ND breeder in Maine :) we are just starting our herd and...
I highly suggest getting two. I tried housing a goat with two sheep, she cried for weeks, she did after a while settle down but she is MUCH happier now that we have more goats.
