is her udder getting big? sometimes they just get fat. she was born in mid oct? she is only a little over 5 months? I would check her udder, but usually a doe will not breed until they are big enough, a little billy on the other hand at 5 months will try to breed anything that moves!
it doesn't take long at all. she must not be totally full in just yet, but showing intrest is a good sign. He may have already bred her, and you missed it.
we have mini donkeys and they do like to play pretty rough. we got some sheep a while back, and the jack was in with them and no problem, till he got a wild hair, and he started chasing them, with his ears back, we separated them right away. my jenny is good too, until she gets a wild hair too...
we had problems with safeguard being effective here also, we use the stuff from the vet cydectin (moxidectin) says oral drench for sheep it covers all the bad stuff!
our fencing allows us to let the whole herd run together. we keep the buck separate when it is closer to the babies being born. The bucks pens are usually smaller because they are only 1, so we let him out. We usually have no problems, but if you let them run together for 2 months, you cover 2...
I love your setup for the feeders for the goats! I showed my DH and he said they were cool. I was hoping he would build one! That nice long feeder would be so handy here with 11 goats and a deer all trying to eat at the same time!
the hay you have is different from what she was getting? if so can you get a bale from the person you got her from? you could try mixing the hay together so she could have some of what she is used to and the other hay you have.
we leave the buck in with the girls for a few months to make sure, they will chase them but the girls do get in the mood after a bit, is your buck stinky? the girls seem to flock to the stinkier ones!
oh, and if she is a milk goat breed they have a tendancy to be kinda skinny anyways. my saanens look kinda skinny too, especially after they have babies!
what kind of wormer do you use? we use cydectin (moxidectin) says oral drench for sheep it kills all kinds of worms, we got it from our vet after our neighbor lost a goat to worms, and another neighbor lost a few goats also. Our vet said that a lot of wormers are just not effective anymore, and...
do you have any pictures of her? I know sometimes ours pant when it is hot. We just make sure they always have lots of fresh clean water. I would just keep an eye on her, has she been wormed??
we buy goat feed for them because they need the copper and other minerals. also we feed them a little corn mixed in, also a mineral block if you want to. and hay and pasture. not much bread, except for an occasional treat but I would not give white bread. for treats you are better off with...
we built a creep feeder from a gate and cattle panels so the babies can crawl through the small opening, and the big ones can't. they are fine then. also make sure you have enough feeders, we put ours in different areas for the bigger goats so they are not right next to each other.
all our babies are born at the same time, we put them in a pen by themselves to bond and to make sure they nurse, then after about 2 days, depending on the weather, we let them out. the babies all tend to flock together and play together, sometimes we don't know who belongs to who until they see...
