In the real world news today Thurs, November 29 2018

For perspective, the Richter Scale is logarithmic..it's not a 1 for one increase. Richter is amplitude..what you feel..what the sensors feel. That means for instance, that a quake on a scale of 7.1 is not 1x more powerful than a 6.1, ...it's 10x as more powerful. So the 7.1 last night was about...

In the real world news today..........Lufkin Texas. I really don't know what to say about this, except that someone didn't get their butt whipped enough when younger. Someone opened a 1/2 gallon tub of sacred Blue Bell ice cream, took a big lick out of it and then put the lid back on and placed...

    Coffee anyone ?

If anyne has ever been to a scenic little island in Michigan called Belle Isle, they've undoubtedly hear the legend of it's original name. Rattlesnake Island, so named by the native Americans. The French settlers turned swine loose on the island and the pigs eradicated the snakes...

    Making A Pasture

"If you want Coaster Bermuda grass I have plenty of that you are welcome to. Are you referring to Coastal Bermuda? If so, why are trying to get rid of it? Do you have a year round forage in mind to replace it with?

Ridgetop - our place and how we muddle along

I did not, nor did I think it. You alone know your ethics and I certainly don't dispute them. There are good and bad in every field of endeavor. I said only what I would do and what I have done in regards to employment. I have walked away from very good paying jobs because I knew the owner or my...

    Farmerjan's journal - Weather

Uninformed people tend to look at hay prices like they do at meat and produce prices in the grocery stores and think the ones producing it all are getting rich. Time, labor, breakdowns and just general upkeep makes the profit margins razor thin. Doesn't even begin to take into account the...

It's still there you know. The city bought it well over a decade ago and turned into a historical/visitors information building and offices. They had the sign taken down and redone last year. Christmas..in July.

Ridgetop - our place and how we muddle along

Probably so, but there are lots of jobs out there. I won't work for an unethical boss or owner, no matter how much it might line my own pocket. Used care dealers and salesmen have a very very well earned reputation, depending how one looks at things, one rung below or one rung above lawyers...

    B&B Happy Goats....journal

To be fair tho, a LOT of CL ads are rather ambiguous, especially the titles and I'm pretty sure many of them are intentionally worded that way simply to draw attention to the ad. Everyone always says caveat emptor but then we too often complain when we are the ones that have to give out the info...

    Coffee anyone ?

I'm old enough to remember when it was not called air conditioning..it was called "Refrigerated Air". A postcard from the 50s for a Kerrville Tx motel: The term has now made a comeback, and refers to air conditioning in which compressor, the condensor and evaporator are housed in one unit...

    Coffee anyone ?

In a way, I fully agree with Farmer Jan. AC is the devil. Makes ya soft..and in that regard, I'm soft. I do fine if I'm outside working, but just sitting around outside,or just standing doing minor stuff at the workbench in the shop it's tough. Sitting inside without ac would be worse, tho I...

They're "ok'. Most of the time, I've had them in some sort of a stew like dish. Squirrel and dumplings seem to be the favorite around here. I have not shot, killed, cleaned, and cooked one myself in several decades tho there are many hundreds of them around here. I could shoot 3-4 a day off one...

I echo a window unit. You can get a 5000btu 110V slide in for about $120 at walmart. I have one in the lower bedroom for exactly this reason and, it also allows us to be able to keep one room cool on our generator without disconnecting the refrigerator and freezers if we have an extended power...

Senile Texas Aggie - comic relief for the rest of you

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being most difficult, I would say it is a 3 difficulty. IF you have spun the u-joint on the shaft for very long when the shear pin broke, it can be more difficult because it might be harder to get the u-joint off the input shaft of the gearbox due to galling of the...

Teresa & Mike CHS - Our journal

Fox squirrels are the largest squirrel species in N. America by average length and weight. We have some small ones here in East Texas which we call 'cat squirrels' but I'm pretty sure they are really a Red. Not much meat there.
