    Oh boy...

Congrats on your kids! Goats quite often won't drink for a day or so until they are familiar with their new home. Just keep the water clean and fresh and keep an eye on them. Wooden wire spindles from the electric company make great toys. We just go and load up ours for free and they're...

    Making Minis

I would just breed both does to a Nigerian buck. Nigerians are finer boned than pygmies, so the kids heads and shoulders should be smaller and fit thru the birth canal just as easy, if not easier on the Pygmy doe. The full size doe crossed to the Nigerian would give you a true mini breed...

Update! Ana had babies! Need opinions ASAP! See page 3

I'd also guess the leg was dislocated and has some damage - hence it being longer and swollen up - due to being pulled.

    Goat Buyers and Major Frustrations!!

I went thru the same thing with raising donkeys. I believe that most people, especially ones in the upper midwest that read local "newspaper" ads placed, believe donkeys and goats to mean the same thing as dirt cheap. Even when you place the price in ads, people that can't afford it or simply...

    Goat Buyers and Major Frustrations!!

Thorny Ridge, I totally understand! Last year I practically gave away my registered Nigerian kids (these were from a Rosasharn buck even!), late summer, I finally gave up and sold 3 doelings unpapered for $250 together at a swap. The lady said they were for her daughters. My husband then herd...

    Name this billy goat's breed

I'd guess boer/nigie as well or possibly fainter. I've seen fainter bucks with the exact same coat and horn structure.

    Wisconsin

We are near Loyal (Northwest of Marshfield). We raise registered Nigerian Dwarf goats (we use the milk and make soap from it!) We also have 2 mammoth donkey geldings we trail ride, Bantam Buff Brahma chickens with a few Black Stars and Americanas mixed in and Australian Spotted ducks. A...

    Horse Pictures

Wow, everyone's got great looking horses! That palomino is honestly the most striking one I've ever seen. I also want to thank the person that rescued that pitiful donkey foal. What a handsome boy he is now! This is my mammoth donkey gelding Hawkeye. He is 15hh and 9 y.o. We bought Hawkeye...

    Good hay vs Bad hay

Hi, okay if you've got youngsters on that hay, I'd definately feed the alfalfa or keep giving them new hay to pick thru. They have a lot of growing left and need the best they can get. When they are older, then make them eat the stalks if you want! LOL

9 Hr Road Trip = 4 New Goats

ooohhh, Baywatch son and double Kingwood grandson - NICE!! I'd even ignore the scurs for that! Our longest goat road trip was 12 hours this past March. Such good bonding times with the husband....

What age can you breed a goat?

I won't even breed my nigerians to until they are 12-15 months, where some breeders have theirs kidding by 12-13 months. They are just "babies" themselves yet!

    small dairy goats

A lot of people sell grade nigerians or even registered nigerians that just don't make the cut for showing due to a fault that are priced "cheap". I'm figuring $150 here. Where are you located and what is your price limit?

    what breeds are these???

That doe looks like an oberhasli cross to me. wether is a pygmy Buck is probably pygmy, maybe nigerian crossed in (don't Pygmies normally have more "aggressive" curved horns that are thicker, where as nigerians usually look like his horns?) The buck is in terrible need of a hoof trim, which...

    Skin flaky and hairloss

The above post is correct. Seasonal shedding possibly combined with lice and mineral deficiency. Goats need a loose mineral with high copper amount.

    Free choice hay or not

Free choice hay here too, even when pasture is available. Nice hay feeder!

    Good hay vs Bad hay

My goats hate stemmy hay and refuse to eat it or pull it out and stand on it. For that reason I've gone to feeding a fine 2nd crop grassy mix hay. Hardly any waste. The value of the hay is in the leaf. It's your choice if you want to play stubborn and make them eat thru it more or give in...
