Wow, Haven't been on the forum for awhile... Wanted to say hello. Still have goats...one boer and 3 alpine plus a mini alpine kid who is 13 days old. I still have my wethers but have added a pregnant doe (now a mama with a buckling). Still living in the mountain at 8150'. We have had some heavy...
Have you gotten your cow yet? Just curious. I don't know if the alpaca would keep your cow from being lonely...but you never know. I would probably make sure your fencing system is strong enough to hold a cow or two... ;) I keep my alpaca with goats and the paca does well. I don't know if it...
I don't have a special feeder...just a wall hanging one. I notice if I don't give them a lot of hay at one time, they don't waste much hay. They actually would eat all of it.
LOL, right now. I think it is harder to convince my husband to let me have a LGD than finding one through rescue. The last month or so, there have been some sighting of one or two bears in our area. One large black bear was walking through our property. My neighbor had called me to warn me about...
Couple gleded males would be nice. Often they are cheaper too. We have a barn my animals can go in and out of but my alpaca doesn't mind the rain or snow. Sometimes my goats are out when snowing too. None of them like the wind though.
Exactly...they don't allow dogs to go as livestock guardian or they are really not trained to do so...forcing me to get a puppy or hope to find a already working dog. Then I would hear rescue people venting about getting puppies or breeding more dogs when there are plenty that need homes...
I am thinking someday I would like a LGD. I especially love the Anatolian Shepherd. I have found an Anatolian Rescue organization but wondering if it is ok to adopt one from them. The problem is most of the dogs are not trained as working dog. If I can find one that is young enough, do you think...
I have five wethers and an alpaca....all for pets. I have hope for my two Alpine wethers to be my pack goats but they are still too young to do any packing. My three Boer wethers are bascially 'useless'...other than they keep half the property clean of vegetation. Without them, I would still...
Yeah, he is a small paca (125lb, 4 year boy) so I probably won't put a pack on him. It was fun taking him out though. I will probably keep taking him out when we have a chance. At least on of the goats will be big enough to carry a pack. My little shrimp...baby goat is another story.
Last week we took our two alpines and paca for a hike. This was the paca's first hike ever. He is a bit clumsy but did relatively well. At one point he wasn't happy and had spitted at me. LOL... He ate his treats right away when we got back to the barn so I don't think he was too upset. :)
I am so sorry to hear about your loss and the ordeal you and you animals have to go though. It would be my worst nightmare also. Praying for their speedy recovery and healing as much as yours. :hugs
My first two are also Boer goats. I was a nerve wrack with them...I think I can handle a newborn baby better. It's been 17 months now and I am more relaxed. They are more hardy that I give them credit for but my common sense is not all there with them. You are going to be just fine. Congratulations!
How is everyone doing in CO???? We are in Coal Creek Canyon and our main road is all washed out in many areas. We were stuck on and off in and out of the canyon...depending when the back road held out or got temporary fixed. Most of the houses are intact since we are on high ground. It was...
