Adopting a rescued Livestock Guardian Breed Dog

I am thinking someday I would like a LGD. I especially love the Anatolian Shepherd. I have found an Anatolian Rescue organization but wondering if it is ok to adopt one from them. The problem is most of the dogs are not trained as working dog. If I can find one that is young enough, do you think...

Finally got use of one of my animals!!!

I have five wethers and an alpaca....all for pets. I have hope for my two Alpine wethers to be my pack goats but they are still too young to do any packing. My three Boer wethers are bascially 'useless'...other than they keep half the property clean of vegetation. Without them, I would still...

    Pack animals in training...

Last week we took our two alpines and paca for a hike. This was the paca's first hike ever. He is a bit clumsy but did relatively well. At one point he wasn't happy and had spitted at me. LOL... He ate his treats right away when we got back to the barn so I don't think he was too upset. :)

    Boers on diet

Is it ok not to have food for goats at night? Of course water will be available at all time. Just no hay overnight. My two boer yearlings are really fat. I feed them about 1 lb of Chaffhaye and 1/2 lb of grass pellets twice a day. They get to roam and browse on the property. There really no much...

    What can I expect?

It's been a week since I have gotten my paca, Kusko. The person I got him from said she wishes Kusko was sweeter... She said he would take treats from her but that was about it. Well, I have no idea what to expect of an alpaca. I know my goats. They are sweet but pushy, bossy and mean to each...

    I love my paca

I just brought home my 4 years old paca, Kusko yesterday. He is adorable and I love how clean he is. Now I wish I had thought of Alpaca before goats... I love my goats but I LOVE my paca. He is adorable!! Funny cut but will have a more plain one next year.... The fact that he pees...

    New to Alpaca

Are alpacas like llamas...usually do their business in a corner? If I locked up an alpaca at night in the barn, will he hold till he is let out to do his business outside? I have an opportunity to get a gelded male who is used to living with goats (no other alpaca). I plan to mix him with my...

    Goat biting others ears....

My Alpine wether Cody is getting bossy with Walter (Boer) AND Cooper (dog)! If Walter is eating from a bucket, Cody would first try to push him away...then he would bite Walter's ear so Walter would stop eating and lift his head...in shock or pain? Today, Cody did it again to Walter but this...

    Goats at a meeting

The goats are at a meeting this morning... I think they are trying to decide if they'd allow the dog to join them. Meanwhile, the dog doesn't seem to care if he is in or not... Just love my animals. :)

    Farm Check

One of the vets and some students from the Teaching Veterinary Hospital are coming to check on my kids. Two of them had horn/scur removal so the main focus is on their healing heads. Since I have them up here (2 hour drive one way), what else should I ask them to do to take advantage of their...

    Neighbor's pitbull was loose....

I had a scared yesterday with neighbor's pitbull was running around on our property. We have 5 foot utility fencing around and the dog ran along the fence trying to find his way in. He isn't a nice dog because he attacked my dog once. I was too busy to herd the goats inside their pen and lost...
