My Chin momma has been the best.
My Cali/NZ does were terrible & went to freezer camp.
I think it had to do w/ where I got them though & the breeding habits of those I got them from.
I can't even sell mine. But, they are not purebred. They are a Cali/NZ X Chin.
Posted on Craigslist, both litters & a few emails, but no offers.
Well, we're feeding ourselves (some anyhow).
I don't know anything about rabbit genetics (or genetics in general).
I have one Chin kit that has blue eyes.
Mom is a Chin & dad is a Calif x NZ.
Is this odd? Should I keep it (don't know yet if it's a buck/doe)?
The rest seem to have brownish eyes.
We had 2 chin kits that their eyes were'nt opening.
I did the daily warm compress & slowly assisting it open.
It worked for one, but the other still has one eye that is not opening.
Do I just continue? See how it thrives? They are meat rabbits, so it's not going to the vet.
Any other ideas...
Our Chin Mama has poop that often doesn't fit through. Doesn't seem to matter if she currently has kits or not.
Sorry, hope that's not a downer comment.
She's a big bunny though, not sure how big yours are.
Wow! That is sweet. I was going to use corrugated roofing under the cage. Thanks for the cleaning head-up.
Now I'm thinking Linoleum, often can get some cheap on craigslist.
We've fed alfalfa in the past w/o any problems.
I have read here that for does & growing bunnies it's fine, but not to give it to bucks or adult does who you don't plan on breeding.
??
I would THINK turnips would be fine, in moderation.
Sometimes too many treats can give them the runs.
The more experienced should chime in at any time. :)
How fun! Good luck. :)
Our Chin mama had 10 just before we bought her, 12 last time & 7 this time.
We haven't bred her offspring doe that we have from the litter of 10 yet. This month probably........
I don't think I'm going to take too many pics of our meat animals anymore.
I get really sad when I look at pics of my goaties that went in the freezer. They were such cutie patooties. :hit :) :)
I may take pics of our outdoor set-up, but it definitely is a poor man's set-up.
