These are high quality, prolific, low maintenance polled Dorsets. Dual purpose breed, best meat sheep. We would prefer to sell them all together, but will separate if needed. There are 15 ewes and choice of 2 rams. Lambs that have not been weaned will come with ewes. Delivery can be arranged.
Po's baby is having problems. She started off a little weak in the back legs, I helped her get up and nurse. She seemed to do fine. We gave her a shot of BoSe and that helped her.
Little later, I went back out and helped her nurse a little again. She didn't nurse for very long. Then I noticed...
We have a boer doe, not a first freshener, that has had a bubble presented for about 2 hours now. She is not pushing. The bubble hasn't broken, so I'm assuming everything is okay inside. Is this normal to have the bubble out for that long without the doe having contractions or actively pushing...
How soon does a sheep go back into heat after she gives birth?
How long if it is an off season or if it is a seasonal breeder?
How soon do you think a ewe has an estrus cycle after she has aborted?
My Jacob ewe Lily has been coughing like crazy the last couple of days. She's acting normal, eating, drinking, took her temp and it was very normal. We gave her LA200 just in case, but I can't imagine what could be wrong with her. It's a very croopy sounding cough. Maybe she has something stuck...

It's going to be a wild ride! Starting in about a week or so, then extending through May. There will be a lull in February, I am not really expecting any lambs from anyone, but you never know! Unlike the wise and wonderful Sheepgirl who used a marking harness, I used the "observation" method...
It has been a little over a year since we got our first sheep. About 13 months to be exact. We have gone from 2 sheep to 36 in that year's time. We also now have 23 goats.
In the past year, I have experienced just about everything there is to know about sheep (and goats).
Lambing
Bottle...
For those who have not been following my journal, our goats are having a baby explosion! We had a trip planned to NYC tomorrow, I didn't want to go because I was worried about all the animals, the Worser Half was insisting we go. Well, yesterday two goats kidded (one of them out in the freezing...
I've written out some instructions for preparing wool once it is sheared.
Hopefully you can find it here:

I can add pictures later.
I found out one of the Jacob ewes I got recently was born in 1999. Wow! She's pretty old. How old is too old to breed a ewe? She seems to be in good condition. Will there be pregnancy problems if I try and breed her? Is there such a thing as sheep menopause? :lau ...and maybe she won't even...
I have no clue what to buy or what to look for. We have a big clipper we use for the horses that we used for the sheep and it worked just okay, it was hard to get through that heavy wool. They are Sunbeam 510A. Supposedly if we buy a new head for it to work with our sheep, it will be as...
I'm thankful to all of you on BYH for being such good friends. And I mean that in the dearest way. I love waking up to all of you in the morning and reading your farm stories...the animals, the families...the DH's and DDs and troubled sons and sick critters. :ya
I hope all of you have a blessed...

Jacob sheep that have long straight horns and electroweb fencing do not mix! The past couple of days my cutie pie Uriah has been getting his horns stuck in the electric fence when he grazes too close.. Luckily I was watching out the window when it happened both times! Yesterday was awful...
Oh boy,
Just today I noticed my 2-year old Cormo ram, Dipsy, looking a little wobbly when he walked. When Tim pushed him along to see if we could get a better look at how he was walking he stumbled and fell. It seems to be in his back end and I'm thinking MENINGEAL! shoot. It's always something...
So I brought home my new young Jacob ram Uriah on Monday. He's so cute! I put him with my flock of Jacobs on Tuesday. He mated Lily, my oldest ewe. But, there may be trouble with Lily and her father, Aidan. Aidan is an older whether that wasn't neutered until he was about 5. So Tim claims that...
