    Causes of limping

What could be some causes of limping? Suffolk ewe is limping. Hooves are great, repeatedly checked and trimmed, nithing wrong. No swelling I can detect. The CD&t shot in the armpit has a firm mass ( a problem I always have, they don't go away). Are there any diseases I should be aware of...

Dosage of Horse Wormer for sheep

Has anyone used Ivermectin horse paste wormer for sheep? If so, what are the dosages? I really hate using a liquid wormer on my sheep and I would like to find an alternative, such as a paste. Anyone know of any good wormers other than a liquid drench for sheep?

    Swollen Shoulder

My ram's shoulder is swollen and he will not put weight on it. It is hard like bone and large. When he holds it up, it looks like it's going in and out of the socket and the knee dangles. It's hard to describe, but he keeps it held up. He started with a limp about two years ago and we always...

    Tail banding gone wrong?

We always dock our lambs tails with the elastrator method (not too short, not too long) and normally the lambs will display pain for a good two days and then they start to feel better and resume being normal lambs. They will often bite at their tails for the next three weeks, but no profound...

Abscess or Hemorrhoid? Not sure what's going on.

*Graphic Photo* This ewe is swollen on the left side of her vulva. It appears to be gray-blue in color, possibly pus (not really sure). It is not a well demarcated area like a typical abscess would be, rather, it's large at the top and travels downward a ways. I don't believe I should...

    Lump on top of neck

After shearing my Suffolk ewe, I felt a lump on the top of her neck. It's located right where the wool starts on the top of the neck. I don't believe it's an abscess, it seem too firm. I'm not too worried about it, but yet I'm wondering what it is.

Frothy mouth, doesn't want to move

I noticed a lamb with a frothy mouth this afternoon and very slow moving. I googled it and all I could find was frothy bloat. So I mixed up the recipe of 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 2 tsp baking soda, and pepto bismol. I stirred it up and gave him some of it in a drencher. There is...

Anyone ever treat an ear hematoma?

I've figured out that my ram has an ear hematoma and I've read the treatment is surgery. I would be fine with the incision and drainage, but I'm not sure how to suture to cartilage. I'm thinking I'm going to be stuck paying for a vet to come out.

    Ram's ear is swollen

My ram's ear is so swollen that it is closed. I believe he must have gotten stung by a honeybee. It does not look like an abscess, but is more diffuse, where the entire ear is swollen and sagging down. It feels warm. No signs of cuts or scabs. I gave him two benadryl. No changes.

Keeping cows or donkeys with sheep

Does anyone keep cows or donkeys with their sheep? (I'm sure donkeys are common, however.) If so, how are they together? Can they share the same pasture or pen? Do they get along? Could a cow hurt the sheep?

    Normal Udder?

This ewe's udder is getting so huge that I am concerned. The other ewe is starting to dry up and get smaller because I believe she is not letting her lambs nurse as much anymore. But this ewe is getting bigger instead of smaller. It doesn't look red or anything, but I think she's...

    Abscess on face of ram

We sheared my ram today. He is a babydoll and has wool on his face. After we sheared his face, we discovered an abscess on his cheek. It's round and swollen and had a scab on it. I picked the scab off and squeezed it, which released pus. After I released the pus, there was still a swollen...

    Detailed lambing question

Because I don't remember this from years past, when the ewe is releasing a yellowish mucus, what exactly does that indicate? Keep in mind she is exactly two weeks away from being due.

Hay farmers: what is best blend for sheep?

Anyone grow and bale their own hay? We will be planting a field, which will be used for baling hay and will not have animals actively grazing on it. I live up North (Minnesota). I'm looking at a catalog, trying to decide what to plant. Pure alfalfa? Alfalfa blended with grasses? I'm not...

    Are egg plants poisonous?

The nightshades or Solanum--are they poisonous to sheep? I'm wondering if I can plant some egg plants in my garden. I googled it, and it seems to indeed be a problem. I'm wondering what other people know.

I realized I had moldy hay in the hay feeder, so I pulled it out. The sheep had already eaten some of it. Now what will happen?

    Where there's a will, there's a way

When a ram wants to breed, he will find a way! Everything was fine after work. I go out later to say hi to my sheep and sure enough, gates are moved and sheep are getting bred that I did not want to get bred. Sheep that were supposed to be in the breeding pen, have escaped the breeding pen...
