Kid with Scours - When to call the vet

Spot Master hit the nail on the head. I'd pull the grain for sure. And, like he said, if you are not using a probiotic...I'd start.

They are great dogs. However, we have no complaints with our Pyrenees. They are great with the animals and even protective over our kids.

    Socializing new large blacks

We just got our large blacks today. They are about four months old. They are acting somewhat scared of us so I was wondering if someone had any tips or techniques that would ease their transition and socialize them to us. Thanks in advance for all the help!

EMERGENCY-Lost one doe overnight, another going downhill fast..

I can't help with the lameness, that is odd. As far as eating goes, I put some sweet feed on top of the usual feed on occasion when my goats seem like they are getting tired of their feed.

    Fly Eliminators

We also use fly predators that we order from Arbico organics. They will not eliminate every single fly but I swear by these fly predators. Our barn is relatively close to our house and the flies are horrendous if we don't have them! Definitely worth it and easy to use.

    4-Hers?

We can't wait for my son to be old enough to do 4-H (next year). I was in 4-H and FFA all through school. These are such wonderful programs for youth and I am thrilled to see that they are still around and thriving. Good luck to all of you showing!

    Whats your favorite Pig Breeds?

I am glad to see everyone highly recommending large blacks because my husband is going to pick up a few for our farm on Wednesday. I am also glad to hear that they are really docile. Of course we read up on them and researched them but it is always better to hear it from those who have first...

Adia's and Flory's Kidding Thread---Adia Had Her Babies!!!!!

AW! Your new babies are beautiful. Amazing how they each look like their parents. My babies came out looking nothing like the parents but a mixture, except for one (we had four). Very sweet.

    Hand raising kittens ??

Glad you found a can food they liked. Someone dropped off a baby kitten at our barn last year. He was only about 4 weeks old also. He took to the can food but wasn't pooping either. If your kittens still have not pooped after eating you may have to give them some stimulation. I wiped this...

Worming a doeling who is still nursing

Molly's Herbs are great. The only ingredient that is not a natural flora in the wormer powder is sourwood. My goats have never had a negative reaction to the wormer. I think you should give it a shot at least. If you still want to give the herd shots, you should pull the kid off the mom and stop...

    Farrier hitting horse?!?!?

I have asked my farrier what he does when he has to trim an unwieldy horse. His two word response was "Have Patience". Anyone that has horses knows that they are smart enough to act on their own accord. This is what makes them trainable, lovable, and downright frustrating at times. That guy was...

How old is to old to disbud

It is only too late to disbud when you can no longer fit the cutters around the horns. However, the older that they get, the harder and riskier the procedure is. When I have waited too long in the past, I keep my newly disbudded goats in the barn for a week so I can keep flies off of them and...

    Sanitizing/Odor control with Lime?

lunaflora is correct. Lime will work wonders as long as you use the right kind. I use hydrated lime in the barn only after I have had an animal in there for a long time and need to deep clean the stall before another animal is put in the stall. And as said above, make sure you either get it...
