    Oats and oatmeal?

So I know people feed their horses oats sometimes. Is oatmeal (just the meal and water) acceptable? If they like it, is it okay to give them? I was thinking it would be a nice meal for cold mornings, a warmed up oatmeal and their hay. But if it would hurt them then I'm not going to.

Anyone know anything about student loans?

So this year of college is totally covered by grants. However, I wanted to use my student loan on a down payment on a house. My school adviser says they probably won't give it to me for that, but it'd be the same as if I collected it for housing... And my aunt has used her loans on cars before...

My reasoning for why country people are more fun than city people...

So I sent a message to my high school senior friends, suggesting that for "senior skip day" we go to the Whiskey Barrel Saloon and ride the mechanical bull. Most of them didn't even reply, or left the conversation on Facebook. The only person to agree so far was my Native American friend. This...

Livestock guardians for sheep and cattle?

If I have a mixed herd of sheep and cattle, and I used donkeys and/or dogs to guard them, what would the ideal ratio for the animals be? For example, one donkey for every two cattle and three sheep? I don't have any idea; I'll research it more before doing it but was wondering if anyone had...

    Bartering food?

So one of my teachers sells fresh, organic eggs for $2.50 a dozen. I was thinking of asking him if he'd barter garden produce for them. Obviously if he agrees, what he accepts will depend on preference, but if it were YOU, would you barter or only take cash? If you would barter, what would you...

Discovering you have a health issue?

I went into the hospital to get my heart checked out and instead out I have a thyroid and liver imbalance. The doctor was kinda unsympathetic, saying it's not serious and pretty much implied that I was overreacting. I know it's not that serious, but wouldn't you be upset too? No teenager wants...

    Ease of growing in Texas?

When I think of Texas, I think of Longhorns and dust. Are there any parts of Texas where growing vegetables and pasture is easy, or is it mostly dry? Also, what are the utility prices there? Thanks!

    Opening a business?

I am about to take a class to become a home health aid. My grandmother (the class teacher) suggested that I get a business license and become an independent contractor. What taxes and fees would be involved in doing this?

What to do with cooked bones?

So what can be done with cooked bones? I know I can feed most raw bones to my cats, dogs, ferrets, etc., and meat can be composted if it's a carefully controlled compost pile. I can grind some of the bones into bone meal and use it in gardens and as a calcium supplement, but eventually I'll...

    Idea for my future farm!

I'm constantly thinking of ways to make a little extra money on my future farm. I had a good idea recently and wanted to know people's thoughts, and see if they've done it. Obviously I'm not trying to get rich, just find ways to pay for the farm and have a little extra money for fun. Here's the...

    Rabbit shedding?

So my rabbit has been looking all scraggly lately. I stripped out the loose fur, and he looks better already. I'm assuming it was just a typical molt, but should I look for some other cause as well? Thanks!

    Farm games?

Does anyone know of any realistic farm games, either for PC or as a download? Preferably free, though I'd pay $20 or less. All the Farmville crap on Facebook is so fake. Obviously, the time could be shorter, but I'd like more realistic graphics. Thanks!

    Home remedies?

Just wondering if there are any old-fashioned homesteaders here. Do you have any useful home remedies for earache, sore throat, or eye allergies? Thanks! :) I prefer to use garden herbs over pharmacy drugs.

    Sprouted grains as winter supplement?

So I was reading that many animals, including rabbits and chickens, like sprouted grains. How long does a corn seed take to sprout in 32, 65, and 95 degree weather? I'm just curious.

    Keeping rabbit cage warm?

http://centralmich.craigslist.org/grd/3566510286.html NOBODY BUY IT! It's mine. ^^ Anyways, I'm gonna buy this hutch for my rabbit. I want to put a bin under it to catch feces. If I added some red wriggler worms, the used bedding (newspaper) from the box, and the old hay, basically making a...

    Beef cattle?

How much do you think a 1,000 lbs. pasture-fed steer would sell for at a fair in Michigan? I'm talking about one of the fairs where you pick an animal and then they butcher it for you. I'm just trying to think of something... Thanks!
