    Thanks for the replies. I have not id'd the weeds but just know that they are there. Mowing them would not be possible because there are still a few stumps, the terrain is rough and we don't have a bush hog. I would for sure not keep the animals while treating the area but posted the question...

    wow! No doubt good decision shooting the bear within rights or not. I hope that mange doesn't run it's way up here in maine. We do have lots of bears here but I didn't know that they could get mange like that. I totally agree, just do what you need to do to protect yourself and animals.

    I really like that idea. I think I will make one out of ply-wood and 2x4. I think on the inside i will slope the back towards the front so that the loose hay at the end will move forward.     Hello from Maine!

    I am from Maine as well :) Chickens are great. We are thinking of getting goats next. Raising pigs is an easy first-time animal I think. Especially if you are worried about the payback. The best animal to raise economically.
