My goats just love the trimmings of our Hibiscus (Rosa Sinensis), so I thought I would look up some information.
Thought some of you might find this interesting.

It grows like weed here, I will be planting more from cuttings soon, just for crops for...
Has anyone ever had goats that bite each other?
On and off now for a few months, when feeding in the morning, I will notice small amounts of blood on the goats. When I clean the area, there is a little wound, nothing serious, just needs cleaning and heals very quickly.
This usually occurs on...
Just thought this was funny, not actually pertaining to goats, but who knows!!!
French farmer Michele Rouyer, who was discovered by police with about 11 pounds of packaged marijuana and a dozen plants, said the weed was not for himself but for the 150 ducks he raises -- in that a specialist had...
I read somewhere on here about how you let the bedding pile up, covering and berries with the hay that our little loved ones waste.
I have been cleaning my sheds out every 7/10 days, but I thought hey why not give this a go.
It's about six/eight weeks now since I last cleaned them out...
Pepper and her kid Chops (wethered). Chops is 6 months old in 2 days time, and is still getting the odd suckle from his mum.
Peppers udder was all but empty a couple of months ago, last week I was getting a bit concerned it was full to bursting. The never ending circle, if I leave him with...
This morning whilst dusting. I heard a strange noise coming from the animals.
When I looked out the window and figured out what it was, well I still don't believe it.
Little Artorius was born on 21 October so that makes him 5 and a bit weeks if my calculations are correct, he is full of life...
Has anyone had experience with a 'take over bid' for Herd Queen.
Pepper, mum to Chops, has always been the Herd Queen.
In the late stages of Poppy's pregnancy (mum to Artorius), Poppy changed quite noticiably. She had always been so sweet and soft, wanting nothing more than love. She...
In case anyone was wondering, I just thought I would let you know why I haven't been around much recently.
I had some heartbreaking news a few days ago, my adult son, who was working in Zambia, Africa, was killed in a road accident.
So I will be back, and will probably just lurk for a while...
Are goats sent to try, test and drive us abosolutely crazy?
We have a scary couple of hours last night, I was heartbroken and crying my eyes out. :hit
Couple of days ago, I put Poppy and Artorius back in with the herd. I thought it was a little early, but supervised and all seemed well, and...
I have given myself a day off today and have spent some time on researching UC, this has come from my earlier posting regarding the best age to castrate a young buckling.
From the research I have done so far, there are three causes of UC.
too much:
1. Calcium
2. Phosphorus
3. Silica...
Poppy kidded about 9.15am this morning. :celebrate
Single buck 3lbs in weight mum and baby doing fine.
Meet Artorius (about 30mins old in this picture) I think he is lovely, and he has got blue eyes, neither sire or dam have blue eyes.
Nice to see he has some of Rambo's colouring.
He is so...
I have posted previously under feeding, that I was not happy with Peppers weight loss, resulting from feeding Chops. We weighed her at the vets is down to 66lbs. :(
Over the last day or two she has been wandering around, like she was over tired and worn out, poor girl.
Hadn't worried too much...
This morning I noticed 2 of my 3 cats with a small mouse, as usual the cats and playing around with it, as is the wont of cats.
Along came one of the chickens, stole the mouse from between the cats paws ran away and ate it, gone in seconds. :gig
I was just browsing around the web, trying to identify some of the native plants I have here, and came across this article, just thought it may be of interest.

They always appear to be hungry.

Hay (star grass) free choice.
Browsing/grazing all day.
PM 1.5lbs 14% sheep ration (between the two of them)

Has anyone ever used Rice Bran as a supplement for their goats.
Pepper, poor thing, is looking very skinny after weaning chops, and whilst she is getting an increased grain amount, hay 24/7 and browsing from say 7am to 4pm, weight gain is very slow.
I know the Mennonite lady I bought these...
We had such a laugh this morning.
Little Chops was chasing around the pen, tossing the hay bucket about. He was chasing his mum, and she was running like mad to get out of his way, the other two does were freaking out, just trying to keep out of the way. :lau
I was watching from the window...
Can anyone give me some advice on storage of hay.
At the moment I am going through quite a lot of hay, been lots of rain, bush muddy, goats don't want to go out in it (can't say as I blame them).
At the moment I can only store 2/3 bales at a time I keep it in my utility room. Fortunately...
You all know of the problems I had with Rambo and Vet.
Well my new Vet is brilliant.
After losing Rambo, I decided that Chops would have to go to the freezer. Not what I wanted to do, but didn't feel I could put him through the same thing has Rambo.
Having had my new vet bring upto date all...
Chops is now doing fine watery poo all gone, eating, jumping and leaping about like a little bucky boy should. Still runs away when he can see I've got something in my hand. Poor mite.
New VET, wow health care for my animals.
I was cautioned about her bedside manner, but she is wonderful...
