I lost my Uncle last week. He and I have been more like brothers for all of my life and it was hard watching him pass. He was 13 years older than me and I am 73 but he had a good life and was ready to pass. He had been going down for the last several months and didn't want anyone hanging...
We had all four of our feral cats fixed but two of them disappeared after bringing them home. One of them wound up at a neighbors so there is three out of four accounted for.
Our dogs aren't consistent and will sometimes take meds easily and other times not so much. Peanut butter works for one of our dogs and a little bacon grease works for another. The other two take meds along with their feed but we again add some bacon grease to keep them from picking them out.
Like every winter since we have owned our place, we have had mild weather enough to get the grass growing and then we will have a hard freeze. That continues this year as our forecast is for it to get down to 22 tonight. We plan on it since our firm last frost date is April 13. For our garden...
We have a couple coming in a few weeks that wants a mini herd (3 ewes and a ram) so that should be where Jack fits right in, He is getting used to being handled and that should keep on like all of the others we have had. The rams are adaptable if you keep at it. Even Oshi hasn't shown any...
We only got enough misting today to keep these fragile sheep inside the shelters. Even the bottle lamb and the young ram lamb finally had enough smarts to get out of the weather. It only took two days of Animal Cracker pieces to tame the ram lamb and he is completely tame now. I probably...
We brought the sheep back in to finish up doing shots and a couple of the ewes needed their hooves worked on. We quit doing regular maintenance on their hooves a couple of years ago and now only work on them when we see an issue. We are going to have a rough time this year in getting our...
Since the ram lambs brother wound up being his sister, she got sent back to her dam and the bottle lamb was sent out to share the coop pen and keep the ram lamb company. It wound up working really well since the circumstances caused the two to bind immediately.
Moving the 'ram lambs' today reminded me of when @Baymule was here once. We got the ear tags on the wrong ear of one of the lambs and as I was reaching to pick it up, it squatted to pee and I said to Teresa, we got ear tags on the wrong ear because that sheep is a ewe.
We have all the sheep in doing the usual check out plus a good portion of the lambs are getting shots. We are pulling the two ram lambs that were born in December and putting them in the old chicken coop pen. The bottle lamb will be going in with them also.
It's amazing how many sheep can fit into a 10' X 32' stall. We have had more in than this in the past but we had to use the chute which can hold15 or so sheep in the holding area. The ewes with their ribs showing all had trips and are getting a lot more feed.
Teresa took a bunch of pictures down at the stall. We were having some hay brought in and it's easier to just put them in the stall rather than move them out of the paddock. We haven't figured out how to get the pictures in email since they are so big. Teresa got a new phone and we haven't...
While I was out feeding Maisy, Mel, Oshi and Pete, Oshi gave me an excellent view into how smart the boy is. I carry a step-in fence post when I'm around him and if he gets too much in my space, he gets it on the soft of his nose.
When I feed, I put the dogs bowls on each side of me then I put...
We have had quite a few bottle lambs but this one is a true pain in the rear, He is cute as he can be but he is worse than a toddler. He has to mouth everything, and he has managed to pull all things off of tables. Teresa is losing patience so he may be relegated to being with the sheep and...
The bottle lamb finally started venturing out among the lambs and he was laying with a bunch of them when we went out to get him just before dark. He crashed about 5 minutes after coming in and he is still out so he was worn out.
I'll make a point of getting some pictures in the next few days...
