Ghrita - due around 9/26 - first time

He is so big and healthy. It's amazing watching him play around the yard. He babysits the 4yr old human for an hour before school while I get her lunch ready. Tomorrow I am going to have my first try at milking!!!! Wish me luck!!!

Ghrita - due around 9/26 - first time

We kidded! Pics to follow.. Came on Sat night 9/28 at 6pm! She did it all on her own as my husband ran out to pick me up. Got there for cleanup. The kid had already nursed! This is really fun.

Ghrita - due around 9/26 - first time

So we have been messing around with the kidding pen idea... We have a corral set up just for fun (the panels will be part of a new fenced in area in a few weeks) and we are planning on making a stall in the goat house. Would it be okay to use the corral that is fully outdoors? Would that be...

Ghrita - due around 9/26 - first time

Well, our new Oster clippers werent working. We really felt like idiots trying with them for an hour. Finally my husband went and got his hair clippers and went to work. It isnt the closest shave but this is about where we got on our first try :) I really hope that I make it to the birth!!

Ghrita - due around 9/26 - first time

For some reason, she is hard to get a picture of lately. She has always been my most friendly, docile one but am noticing different personality in the past month.

Ghrita - due around 9/26 - first time

Our Nigerian dwarf Ghrita is due very very soon. Her udder is getting huge. It will be our first goat birth. I am scheduled for a 2 day trip around the 145 day window so hoping I dont miss it! I have a lot of supplies and am working on a small 4 x 4 kidding pen in our 9 x 10 goat house. I...

Are whole oats a non-GMO feed?

Much of the wheat supply is tainted by GMO and horrible breeding practices creating undigestible form of wheat . I am not completely avoiding it for my goats or chickens but I will do my best unless I know the source (same as for my family).

    electric netting

We got our electric netting for our acreage that borders forest. I am wondering if ours needs this wetness that I hear people mention. I lost my manual already but its the one from Premier 1. I live in Nor Cal so no rain until NOvember probably. I really want them in with my trees next week but...

Does anyone know...can you feed a baby raw cow's milk???

Our family LOVES milk but I am an Ayurvedic practitioner and student so we heat ours to make it more digestible. Cold beverages are heavier on the body and can create gas / colic in both adults and kids without strong digestive fire. Also, I think human babies should have their mothers milk...

Goat milk machine from human breast pump?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has tips on converting my Medela Symphony hospital grade breast pump into one for my Nigerian Dwarf goats? What kind of tubing and adapters? My husband is not excited at all about milking and I will be finishing up using this pump soon just in time for my first of 3...

    Goat Feeds

We are still on the newer end so we may switch to something else but we use the organic grain feed from Countryside Organics. I am fairly pleased with their quality so far. It's not cheap so I am unsure how sustainable it will be to keep up with it in the long run.

Trimming hooves for the first time

I watched youtube videos and went to a neighboring farm to learn and gain confidence. I'm trying to get over my inherent laziness and do it more regularly. My goats actually seem okay with it. I did stab myself with the trimmer so be careful!! I started to gush blood and ran to get a towel. My...
