    Free range meat chickens?

We tried some egg layers this summer, cast offs, we became a sort of chicken rescue to several people until we said "enough" anyway we had 10 at the start of the warm season, two were Roos. Only one hen actually layed regularly. We are down to 3. 2 died(one was sick when we got it), 2 were eaten...

New Senior horse - need feeding regimen

This is my first horse and I feel rather unprepared. My neighbors decided to get rid of their two horses when there daughter went away to college and they sprung the idea on me that they would just give me the older of the two about a month ago. Both horses went to stay at our other neighbors...

Anyone know Satin breeders that might ship?

I'm looking for specific satins and there's nothing within 7 hrs driving distance of me :( I've contacted a few people on breeders lists but they have all gone out of business. I'm hoping to make it to some rabbit shows this summer but not sure what ill find and probably not my specifics. If it...

    Genetics C locus (chchd)?

I'm trying to figure out the product of a Cali (aaBBchchDDEE) x solid black satin (aaBBCchdDDEE). I just can't figure out what the C alleles will do. Punnet square gives me 50% solids (Cch) and 50% ? (chchd??) not sure what that is and google isn't helping much.

    Wire gauging for cages

I keep seeing for cages that I should be looking for 14 gauge walls (1x2") and 16 gauge floors(1/2x1"). Do I have the gauges backwards or something? Since 10 lb rabbits are jumping on the floor, shouldnt that be the thicker wire while the walls are thinner since they are under less stress or force?

    Grow out cage & pen

My rudimentary plans have evolved from daily post reading. Either building or buying wire cages (still doing the math) I'm thinking of two open shed concepts of the same size. The first will have 3 30x36" cages side by side. And the 2nd will be a 90x36" for a grow out cage. I plan to create...

    Switch grass - panicum vergatum

I have acres of this stuff starting 20 ft from my house. I've read that the seeds and plants are food for wild ducks, geese, and rabbits among other animals and that it can be cut and used for livestock hay. Does anyone have any experience with this? It would certainly be an easy and...

    Genetics/ crossing breeds

I plan to start out with a buck and 2 does. I want them primarily for meat but plan on harvesting fur as well to make things to sell. I like the fine bones of the Cali's as meat is most important but I was hoping on getting a combination that would give me both white kits and another color...

    Breeding and grow out

I have a few questions that have arisen and I haven't found answers to while pursuing the forum. 1. When to begin breeding? I live as north as you can go in the U.S. so some northern dwellers experience on this. Some helpful average high and low temperatures for my area are: April 48-29, May...

Housing a pair of geese? Northern climate

So i plan starting chickens and rabbits this summer, if i can get things built in time. Possibly start out with a pair of each this summer and expand next spring. I am curious about geese though. I want to get a pair simply as pets, although any eggs would be harvested. While ive found an...

    Adolescent rabbit housing

I'm currently just collecting information before launching into keeping/ breeding rabbits for meat. The Californian is my current favorite. Through the research I've done so far I plan on building a hutch/ cage for a buck and two for breeding does. I also have an idea for a large hutch type...
