    Lambing 2015 - Parsnip LAMBS!

I've been absent for a while and I'm sorry about that, just life getting in the way of things ;) Making a thread for my 2015 lambing because I think I'll have lambs by Christmas this year which is WAY early, but due to a ram escape, it's gonna happen. So in theory I should have a batch of lambs...

Due in August - picture UPDATE

Poptart is FINALLY showing signs she's probably pregnant heehee Her udder is definitely developing even though she's not due 'till the end of August. She comes from a heavy milking line though! :) She's had discharge for the past week and is acting aggressive toward her dam, which she hasn't...

    Ewe body condition during/after weaning?

Just a quick question on body condition! Both of my ewes who twinned this year are looking and feeling a bit thin at the moment. They both had a ewe and a ram lamb, and I've sold both the ram lambs, and now each are currently weaning off their ewe lambs, each ewe with one ewe lamb. I wormed all...

    Is this a CL lump?

Noticed just today that one of my ewe lambs has a strange lump under her cheekbone? It's only on the right side and it about the size of a marble, or gumball. I have some pics? It looks vastly different from Jillian, who has a 'milk goiter.' Should I get her tested?

    What age can rams reproduce?

I feel like this is a silly question... But I have a 100 day old ram lamb who keeps mounting my older ewe, Wendy. He's a big boy, and she's a smaller ewe, so it works. (granddam is the relation) Literally I just looked out the window and she was eating while he was doing his thing. I'm not gonna...

Might be getting a goat?- TODAY :)

Hello everyone! Right now I have sheep, but I might be getting a goat soon. A dairy goat. Looking at a Nubian/Nigerian Dwarf cross doe that is almost a year old. I've been wanting a goat for extra milk, just in case there is a bummer lamb, or a ewe whose milk has not come in at the time of...

I think my ewe has pink eye...

I noticed yesterday evening and all today so far that my young ewe had a squinty left eye. I thought it was because of the sun that was shining in her eye, but even in the shade it was like that. Good thing she doesn't mind being handled, because I looked at her eye and it's cloudy in her eye...

    Ewe with blood in urine?

It's with my ewe with the 2 month old twins. I was out in the pasture with everyone today and Wendy squatted to pee. Noticed her urine was tinted red, and that the urine dripping off her vulva after she was done, was red. There is some stain on her udder from previous urination I suppose, but...

    Possible bred ewe? Opinions?

So right now, I have two of my ewes with a ram! They've been with the ram for 15 days now. They're still not super interested in him, even though the poor guy is trying really hard! BUT my St. Croix ewe, Diana, was with a ram for 4 days back in mid-December. Don't know if this is a sign of...

Small red spots on ewe's udder?

I just noticed today that my ewe who had twins last month has tiny pinprick red dots on her udder. Just the front part near her belly. The back of her udder is fine. The red spots aren't raised, or HUGE. Just little reddish/dark pink colored spots. Like someone took a red marker to her udder and...

    Dorper/Blackbelly Ram -PICTURES!!

Just wanted to tell people about the exciting news! There's a BIG possibility of me getting a ram to breed my two open yearling ewes. I'm going to take a look at him Friday, and I'm super excited! He's a Dorper/Blackbelly cross which means he has horns, but that's alright. This ram is decent...

    Eagles and Hawks

Has anyone ever had troubles with winged predators carrying off small livestock??? I really didn't think about the possibility until I saw a Bald Eagle yesterday. I haven't seen one in a few years and my GOSH it was absolutely enormous. Thought it was a Blue Heron at first, but no. It was a...

    What color is he?

Yesterday I was trying to explain to someone what color my alpaca is. The best I could come up with was mottled silver grey. Is there a proper term for the color he is??? Can I have some opinions on what his official color might be? Or was I spot on with my definition I came up within 5...

    Lambing/Breeding 2014-Parsnip

Officially on lamb watch now! I figured I'd make a big thread to cover the whole thing instead of spamming everyone with smaller threads ;) BUT YES Wendy is really restless today. She'll eat a little bit, then go off by herself for a little... and eventually go back to the hay feeder. So she's...

    Tinted discharge from pregnant ewe?

Alright, so I went down to see my sheep this afternoon after I got home from college, and I first noticed that Wendy, the pregnant, and MOST vocal ewe was no making any noise. I fed everyone some more orchard grass and everyone ate, like normal, and drank water, like normal. So then I started...

    Single or Twins?

I keep making all these new threads XD MAYBE I should just make one big lambing thread so I can stop plaguing everyone with these small ones. I hope they aren't annoying! I'm just so excited! Anyway, I just wanted opinions on if Wendy looks big enough to have twins in there! She's not very...

    June/July lambs?

Is it better to have lambs in Jan/Feb, or June/July? Some of my ewes who did not get bred in September are cycling right now. I have access to a ram, and I was wondering what the pros and cons were to summer and/or winter babies? If I put them with a ram soon, that would give them June lambs...

    Update on Wendy's udder

It's been about a week since I last posted a thread about Wendy. I've been taking pictures of her udders weekly. I think I'm noticing a difference finally? ... now that I'm typing all this out I feel like a creepy sheep lady.... :/ OH WELL. But compared to last week, her udder definitely feels...

    Ewe udder development question...

I feel like such a newbie asking this question... But I'm raising (possibly pregnant) hair sheep for the first time. Two of my ewes are scheduled to lamb early-mid January. That is, if they were bred. Both being exposed to a ram. I also have another maiden ewe that should be due in mid Feb. (I...

    It's snowing!

Snow is so beautiful to look at, but it gets old really quick... Decided to take the sheep and alpacas out of the barn, so they could run around and stretch their legs. (plus it gave me plenty of time to clean the barn)
