    Eating Habits When It's Cold

Maybe that's what it is...and by me coming out to the barn for a visit, their "moods" improved and they decided eating was a good idea after all. Yeah, don't have problems with them eating when the barn is opened up and they can come and go. Hard to do that with such cold temps and horizontal...

    Eating Habits When It's Cold

I just went out to check on them and not much had been eaten since this morning. So, I took a flake of hay and sat down in the middle of them, put it in my lap and they all ate like crazy. All of that was eaten and even more from the hay feeder. So, they are eating, especially if I'm around...

    Eating Habits When It's Cold

Do goats eat as well when it is cold as when the temperatures are more moderate? I've read in several places that goats will eat to keep warm but mine tend to eat less when it is cold. Is this normal? Do other folks see the same thing with their goats? And just for perspective, it is 17...

    Expanding the Herd

Hi all. I would like to add two doelings to my little herd, which consists of three yearling wethers. The boys were bottle babies and are super sweet. I know the breeder has her herd tested and all is good, especially since we both use the same vet. Since the wethers are my first experience with...

    Advice Needed

I only have three goats as well and use totes as elevan suggests...works great! I have two, one for the bale and another for the treats, minerals, hoof trimmers, etc. Keeps everything together and handy. Plus the boys love to jump on and off them! They make for a great toy!

    Horns? Dis-bud? Polled?

One of my three wethers is polled but he is getting bumps where horns would have been. Is that normal? They are each about the size of a jelly bean. He is almost six months old. The other two were dehorned and, thankfully, show no signs of growth!!!

New to goats, Questions about bottle babies?

In December, I got three bottle babies. Two were 2.5 weeks old and the third was 3.5 weeks old when I got them. For their bottles I used plastic reusable water bottles and nipples from the feed store. The nipples are made to fit reusable drink bottles which is very cool. Plus a package of three...

Hi BlueMoon! Any updates on ur little guy? Is his leg still bowed out? Is he using it? How about his other legs? Could he be low on copper? I've heard that that can cause leg problems. Obviously ur vet will know best. I sure am pulling for this little guy. He's blessed to have you!!

    Baby buckling...

When you say solid soft bricks, are they more like dog pooh? If so one of my liitle guys was doing this for a few days and I contacted my vet about it. She said to watch him and if it changed to true diarrhea (running stool) to contact her. But I know you've been battling some other things so I...
