We just ordered 3 sourwood seedlings, 1 mountain ash and a horse chestnut. I'm also going to order a Japanese Pagoda tree and Red Pussy willow.
Horse Chestnuts trees have spiny nuts/fruit hulls. The house I grew up in had one. The nursery called it a Chinese Chestnut (same thing?? no idea). But wow, looks like the nut is edible and has medicinal uses.

It won't be going in the yard. I don't need another spiny hull in my yard... the sweet gum has been bad enough...lol

My husband has always wanted another horse chestnut. We had one at one time and didn't realize it wasn't getting water, it died.

There's Chinese & American. Ours is the American.

I'll have to look into the medicinal uses and see if the American is the same. ๐Ÿ™‚

We bought a few more trees and shrubs tonight. It was buy one, get one free. So we will be getting, 2 sourwood trees, 2 witch hazel shrubs, 2 pecan trees, 2 pink dogwood and 2 milkweed plants. This order will arrive in March.

In another order we bought, 2 Purple Robe Locust, 1 Sunset Red Maple and 1 Autumn Red Maple. These will arrive this month.

All of these (except the pecans) will benefit the bees.

We will also be getting 4 Japanese Pagoda trees in May.

The fun will be in the planting...lol

Put the milkweed where you don't mind them spreading. I put mine in a raised bed years ago, but they pop up all over.

What type of milkweed?

I bought one that's called bubble gum pink. I have other milkweed on our property, it's in the treeline that runs down our driveway, don't know where it blew in from. I will probably plant this there. It will be a nice mix. The bees love our existing plants.

This is the one we already have. Showy Milkweed.

I'm a dreamer! I've been planting seeds for several months now, almost since we first got our bees.

This is our original chicken pen, turned 4H pig pen, converted to a winter shelter for our peacocks now a storage shed. We will eventually be removing the wire. The Apiary is behind me and to the left.

Behind the green metal is this 3 sided room. It is where I would like to install an observation hive. The green metal faces South. That is where I would place it.

There are plans available, but they would need to be modified and if hubs comes on board, we will probably just make our own plans.

Might not ever happen but would be very cool if it did. ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ
