Someone tell me how it is June already...Man this year has been weird as hell. Anyways its that time again and boy is it going to be a busy summer. All girls are bred and I have crazy piglet fever.

Lets start with Maeja who tricked me with a fake pregnancy I think? She had no udder but was dripping milk. It was very strange and now I believe she is ACTUALLY pregnant as she has not come back into heat plus she is running with the boars.

Next up we have Lil Red who is due July 11th

Then comes July 23rd which is the due date for not one, not two, but three of my sows. Yall remember how Prissy, Lucy, and Calli all farrowed at the same time in December? Welp seems they are all on the same cycle. I’m hoping that the girls at least space out their farrowing.
Caught in the Act, Prissy cannot be bothered.

Lucy bean being super cuddly as always. She actually wasn’t feeling well in this photo as she had pneumonia from the fact it went from freezing to 80 degrees overnight.

The sires are either my boar or his Son so we shall see what happens! Atlas was out for a few days after all the hard work he did covering three girls at once. Not that he was sick or anything you could just tell he was exhausted from his -ahem- activities ;)Also excuse his grungy look, the mangas are shedding out for summer.

What kind of pigs are they? Do they have wool that sheds or just long curly hair? At first, I thought it was caked mud, then in one picture I realized it looked more like a white or gray wool or hair coat that covered their bodies.

They are mangalitsa, their hair sheds in the summertime. Although I’ve found certain blood lines will do it at different times. I also have some that barely shed at all so it really depends.

All the girls crave affection towards the end of their pregnancies. However Maeja is a lil different in that she always likes to put her head in my lap. Well yesterday I was sitting with the girls and Maeja comes by and is asking for rubs, but when she went to lay down she decided she should put her whole body weight on me not just her head. This girl is easily 400 lbs so needless to say I had to move fast. Gotta love pigs always keeping me on my toes. Due dates are getting closer and Im getting pretty excited.

Here we have princess Lu keeping cool in the wallow

Mrs. Red has less than a month to go

All the hogs resting after a long day of doing nothing. I still have lots of work to do in order for the sows to move back into the grass but I’m getting there. So excited to move them back out.

Less than a month to go before pigmagedon starts. Maeja finally has signs of milk so she will have hers within the next 7-10 days. All the other girls are HUGE and want attention. Movement can be seen from all of them which is very important for me. Red is next closest and is about two weeks out from her due date.

Maeja from a few mornings ago.

This weekend Im hoping we can get the new farrowing huts built as well as repairing the last portion of the fence so the girls can spend their last few weeks of their pregnancies out on grass.

Lucy’s daughter was having a strange mucousy, thick, red discharge last night, it honestly looked like afterbirth. I knew she was due soon and upon inspection I could express milk from her teat. I knew however something was off and I observed her for some time and besides very small contractions every thirty minutes she was calm/sleeping. It was 1am at this point and i had been out all day so I went home and checked on her again around 7am. This time she had a nest and was starting to get serious. I sat with her for a few hours but then left as she was stalling the labor due to me being there. At first she wanted the company but as the pushing got more serious I could sense I wasnt helping. So I went home to rest for a bit. Sadly I came back to a tiny dead baby in this weird membrane up to its neck. Now this wasn’t your normal amniotic sac but rather a much tougher membrane that was surprisingly difficult to get off. I inspected the baby(it was a boy) and found his nipples weren’t developed all the way and he had no eyes. While this isnt the start to farrowing I was hoping for I am more happy the mom is ok. She is younger and much smaller than my experienced sows and my fear was she would have trouble passing the baby. She was eating, drinking, and wallowing with the others so I am not worried about her.

Other sows are massive, and Maeja and Lil Red are next up to give me babies.
Here we have Maeja on the left inspecting Wobbles(the young mom) while she was in lAbor this am

This is the baby, he was only about 6-8 inches nose to tail.
