Alfalfa or no alfalfa for sheep and goats. Getting mixed opinions so far.

Part of my farm got flooded out and destroyed the grass last year so supplementing a bit more this year while I build it back up.

We feed free choice alfalfa throughout the day :). I dont know what your setup is like but it does work, and we do love it. Also a great replacement for grass as well as alfalfa hay. If you get a bale we’ll fill their feeder with hay and put 1-2 flakes (depending on what pen) and they ususally pick out the alfalfa 🤣. However this is doe goats as I don’t know about sheep :)

Alfalfa is high protein and is not needed for maintenance.

It is great for does in milk.

I would pick a less expensive hay for maintenance.

I think one of the issues with feeding predominantly Alfalfa is the calcium to magnesium ratio....
