Anthrax has been confirmed in at least one of 50 head of cattle found dead on a Logan County ranch, according to the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

Anthrax can develop naturally in soils during a drought. It is most often found near river beds, Roehr said.
The spores can become active in heavy rainfall or flooding. It can kill many animals in a short amount of time.
Besides cattle, sheep, horses and goats are the most susceptible.

Thank you for posting this Em!!! Saw it on the news and have been trying to find out everything I can about this, but not finding too much on prevention yet...so many people in such a bad drought this year, then when the rains do come...flooding.

Just a suggestion, but your post may be more wide read if it were in the emergency area? Just thinking that people without cattle may not read it and it affects many animals.
