We are looking into getting a milk machine and the lack of lines to clean seems really appealing. Anyone have any experience with it? I haven't been able to find a review anywhere.
I have no idea. Maybe I misunderstood their sales pitch but it sounds like the milk goes straight through the inflation into a bucket, where with most other milkers it goes through tubing? I don't have any experience with milkers so was trying to see if someone knew anything about it. I just really struggle with the milk going through long tubes. It just seems like it would be impossible to clean.
If you only have 3 does, I would think a machine would be overkill.
My breeder milks over 20 does and she has a machine that she bought refurbished off of ebay. She said she runs a bleach water solution through it after she's done. Then again, she literally dumps out all the milk when she's done, so I'm not sure if you'd need to do more if you're going to drink it.
My husband wants one so when we go somewhere and have someone watch the goats they can easily milk. However, it doesn't sound like the little hand versions work and we are thinking of getting a bigger place in the future which would mean we would get more goats. He really feels like the hand versions are a waste of money and looks at this as an investment. We are not getting it soon, I was just starting to research into them.
I also have a surge bucket milker modified to sit on the ground and it works great. I run dairy soap thru the lines and scrub the bucket with it. Run cool water first to rinse then hot water to clean. If you run hot water thru first the milk will leave a residue on the liines. I like clear lines so I can see when they are dirty. Mine came with a long brush to clean in the tubes if needed. I've only done it a few times. www.portablemilkers.com is where I ordered mine. I got a refurbished model and it wasn't that expensive.
